Ok don't lay into me....

I want to dye my K&N filter to match my bike since it shows. I know the oil has dye so I don't see any harm in dyeing the filter.

Anyone foresee anything bad about this idea?

Well..what's the worst that can happen? You have to buy a new filter? Yeah, the protective oil is red..idk if you can do it red and then add some white dye to lighten it up a bit so you're still using the oil?

 

Don't they make the fabric "rain socks" to cover the filters? Maybe get one of them and dye it if the dye doesn't work on the filter itself.

 

Its just cotton gause go ahead and dye it!

 

The K&N Oil is red in color already. It has a pinkish tone to it when you first put it onto a clean filter medium. I suppose you could try to dye some clear oil (or add some clear oil to the K&N oil to "pinken" it up). If you do dye the filter, how do you plan on keeping it pink once it is oiled? Just a thought... Perhaps a pink-dyed outer filter (filter cover - like "Outerwears") will do what you are after, since it can be washed separately and does not use any oil, as it just covers the filter...

Boy oh boy, you Ladies are just looking for things to dye all over the place!!! LOL My wife is after me to dye my white hair, but I see what she goes thru, not happening! But seriously, like someone else said, it's only cotton so it should work.

OK I am going to try it. Got me some nice bright pink dye.

Yeah I know, when I spray the oil on it will go darker - reddish pink. We'll see how it turns out, I will post a pic when I do it.

I do have a rain sock, have not used it yet. That's a good idea to see if they have a pink one

 

Lucky you, somedays, i think my wife just wants me to dye! Anyway, why not get the HD stage 1 filter, its basically white and spray with some pink dye, the HD stage 1 fillter does not need to be oiled. just a thought while im still alive. HeHe!

 

You could try lightly bleaching the filter element to lighten it up. The red in the oil may make it appear more pink...
