Default Se 204

Decided to change cams while the tensioner was being changed. Decided on the SE 204. The part number in the HD catalog is 25464-06. I got a pretty good deal on the cams.

The question I have is the box says "fits '06 later Dyna Models and '07 later softail and touring", will this cam work with a '03 Fatboy 88 inch motor?

According to the research I've done you need p/n 25149-00. The reason I know this is because I've been looking for the cams you bought 25464-06 on E-Bay. The only ones I've found are the ones that fit yours. PM me if you decide to sell.

I am not doubting your research, I found the same thing on eBay. I do know that HD has been known to change part numbers.

Is this still true if you are upgrading to the SE hydraulic tensioner and oil pump? My local dealer even said the p/n 25464-06 were the correct cams. Are the cams different or has the part number just been changed?

204's in an 88" is not a good match. Maybe with a 4 degree advance key. A good option is the Andrews tensioner kit and an "N" style cam like 21N or 26N.

The -06 part number suffix tells you that the the part will not fit '06 and later models. That PN will not fit your '03. Furtheremore, they won't work if you ugrade to the SE hydraulic tensioner/roller chain setup. The won't work with the hybird cam plate because it is designed for the 25149-00 cams and they won't work with a full on conversion to the later OEM setup because the rear cam journals are the wrong size. Conversion cams are required and H-D doesn't offer any conversion cams.

Sell to fierofly before he finds a set somewhere and you lose a ready buyer.

DJL is correct the 25149-00 is what you want, you will also need a 17045-99D Cam service gasket kit. While you're in there replace the inner cam bearings.

And the SE 204 is an excellent choice for your 88.

Thanks for the input. Maybe next year I can go to a 95" motor. Right now I want a little more umph on the low end and mid range.

It's a riding style thing, the TC-510 won't give you as much low and midrage ummph, but it will most likely deliver better peak HP numbers.

Do some research regarding 204's in 88". Let me kick start you so to speak... lol

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/7763049-post11.html

204's in a 95" is better.

Also, you cant go wrong with a 2n1 for low to mid increase.
