would make it harder to take slow corners, no? i have never taken his train out, so i dont know
The trail would be decreased by running the raked trees so it should handle more quickly.
5 degrees would be about the max I'd personally feel comfortable with. I've lived through more than one tank-slapper over the years. It ain't fun.
Harleycharlie1992 has 6 degree trees, but also 3" over forks. The extended forks cause an effective frame rake increase and that would help limit the decrease in trail caused by the raked trees alone.
The raked cups (see Tom84FXST post) and the raked trees would be the best way to get 6 to 8 degrees with the least amount of possible handling problems caused by too little trail.
I always go with what pococj says because he hasn't failed me yet and from his picture he must be an old dude and old dudes know a lot. When you're ready to make your fallaway adjustments follow his instructions. They're a lot easier and work perfectly.
I'd go with trees too. All of the raked cups I have seen do not work with the factory steering stem lock.
Most aftermarket trees won't work with the factory steering stem lock either, at least none of the Pro Ones do. That was certainly not a main concern for me though.
ive been where your at..wanting just a little more rake..the old scool fix we did in the days gone by...the old pan models used adjustable rake trees on the sidecar models..these trees use leg caps that pivot on upper tree. lower tree swings on axis..swing the lower tree out ..little more rake..lowers the front for sidecar...swing back for solo riding to stock rake.. jp cycles sells the whole kit in the geezer catalogue but you'll need to get them chromed. do ya research and be sure they fit..am savin up for me a set for my 05 nt
Thanks for all the great info. If I go anymore than 5* would that not make my front end start getting too low without getting oversized forks to compensate. I do see that I shoud gain about half to 3/4 of an inch when I switch trees since new uppers have tubew screw into them not through them like factory trees do. Living in florida I do go on the interstates alot going to daytona and key west etc. So I need it to handle well at highway plus speeds. I am dumb enough that I will sarifice comfort for looks but not safety.
