Okay I installed my stage one kit ont my 2012 fatboy last week but got a couple questions. When I took the stock air cleaner off I had to unplug what looks like some kind of sensor. And when I put the screamin eagle air cleaner on it didn't have a place to plug it in. And said nothing about it in the instructions. Really curious what this is
And the secon is that when I rev it up a little bit it blows black smoke out of the exhaust. What could this be due to? I have the fuel pak tuned to the right settings. They are vance and hines big radius 2 into 2.
I would really appreciate any help guys. I am freaking out. Thanks in advance
I strongly recommend that you invest is a Harley Service Manual and Harley Parts Manual. Your dealer will provide them for a nominal cost and it will be the best purchase you'll ever make for your bike.
Call Vance and Hines. They have a great tech division.
the sensor can just be relocated behind the new plate that came with the Stage i kit. It is used during HD tech maintainance. Also inclosed in the parts pack for theStage 1 kit there is a small sheetmetal clip that is to be secored onto the back of the new plate as per the instructions. i just positioned mine behind the throttle body.
As for the black smoke sounds like it may be running a bit rich. Did you have the tune set for pipes and Stage 1 kit?? it reads like the pipes were on already and that you just added the Stage 1 kit.
I am gonna give vance and hines a call today. Some people are saying its because it is new but it didn't do that before the pipes tuner and ac. (I put on all at once) so you guys are probably right about being too rich. Thanks alot for the help
Before you jump the gun and call V&H make sure that it blows black smoke all the time and not just when it is warming up.
All the newer bikes are set up to run rich during the engine warm up period.
I wish I would have read this before I caalled them. They told me the exact same thing. But one thing I can say is that vance and hines takes calls very well. I wasn't on hold at all and they guy explained everything to me in detail. I am pretty happy now that everything is okay lol
