This is one of those little annoyances that will drive people crazy until they get the perfect solution.
I heard that! I spent a lot of time finding the right automotive trim panel retainers that would both fit the threads and cover the over-sized holes in the fender. Then I bought expensive H-D touch up paint that worked OK, but left brush strokes. Now I've got an expensive can of Colorite to try on the plugs. This should be the final round and from a few feet away they will barely be visible. Good riddance already!
I have some stainless button screws in the holes on my Deluxe rear fender for now......ive got some of the ones with the black snap on cap in the post. Will look much cleaner when my Le Pera bare bones arrives next week.
The problem is that its not just an empty hole. It has that bit of hardware mounted in it with the black plastic snap ring. I'm sure that if I remove that snap ring, the screw hole hardware will drop through to the floor, and I can't reach far enough up under the fender, with the tire there, to put it back.
The dealer gave me a little black plastic trim cap, but it would require removing that hardware, and then it would snap right into the hole. that would be a lot cleaner.
Use a long zip tie to get that fastner back into the hole.

You guys are all talking about the hole in the fender, How about those ugley seat nuts that hold the seat down and that white washer ?? Here's my fix to that. It's a safety glasses case I punched 2 holes in.

I used a coat hanger to get the fastener in the hole. Added tape an inch from the top of the coat hanger for the insert to rest on. Fed it up from the bottom. Took 2 minutes.
