I've been reading on here about people lifting their tanks 1, 2, sometimes 3 inches. I loved the look and idea of the mod...so I did it to mine. After shopping around and seeing what all the kit was (two brackets, nuts/bolts/washers, and a fuel line), I decided to make my own.
I'm sorry if this insults anyone, but you have to be an absolute idiot to spend up to $60 on this mod. I went to Lowes, and $7 and 10 minutes later I had everything I needed to make this myself.
-Aluminum flat bar (you can buy it by the foot). 4 ft. was $5
-Spray paint
-2 nuts, 2 bolts, 2 washers
-5/16 fuel line (most of the time not needed)
Not including the time it took for the paint to dry, this only takes 10 minutes TOPS. Cut the flat bar depending on how big you want the brackets...round the edges so they aren't sharp....and drill two holes in each one. Why in the world someone would fork out a lot more money to do this puzzles me. I thought riding a Harley and knowing how to build stuff and make things usually came hand in hand lol...
Post some close up pics of the brackets you guys made. I did buy the kit from DKcustoms, and would like to see how yours compares, just for comparison sake. Thanks!
I'll admit...... I'm an "absolute idiot" for buying a tank lift kit. I might not have spent that much on it, but I did buy one. I mean....... just look at my bike! What kind of idiot would build something like that??!! BTW: FU.......... Oh, "I didn't mean to insult you......"
Was about to bring my bike to the local dealer and let him do the complete tanklift-modification ....I'm in a dilemma now !!! Don't wanna be a complete idiot !!!
