Default Blacking out studs on heritage saddlebags?

My bike came with a pair of saddlebags from a Heritage and I'm not a fan of the studded look all over them but the bags will be nice to have once in awhile. Thought about selling or trading for an all black set but was wondering if anyone has ever blacked out the studs or what type of paint to use on them that would hold up best in the weather/sun/etc. I'm thinking of scuffing the studs and using a gloss black paint on them.

Black studs on the bag might actually look decent and would save the trouble of finding other bags. Any ideas?

My uncle did exactly what you describe on his RK bags. I think he used enamel paint. Took him forever. Looks nice...I like my chrome studs tho.

They make all black spots, so U could replace them or I've read in here some just remove them.
Here's some of the diff ones U can get.

of course removing them will leave little hole all over the bags.

Probably could sell them easy, seen lots of Heritage owner that didn't take good care of their bags that would prob like some newer ones.

Thanks for the link. Replacing them is another option. I don't think I'd like all the little holes in the bags from removing them. Might end up selling them still. Just cant get into the studded look Thanks again.

I understand,, its an Acquired thing that come I think with age.

Growing up in the 50's I remember most all the Harleys had Leather bags, spots, fringe, and even squirrel tails hanging all over them.

That look brings back a lot of memories for me and probably why I like them.

I've added probably 150 more spots on my bike, along with all the fringe I made.

My son don't care for them either, but on my Heritage he's OK with them, he just keeps saying, Dad don't over do it. They wouldn't look good at all on his new Street Glide.

Don't know what bike U have, but if all U got is the bags with spots, then yes I'd probably agree they would look out of place.

On my phone now so I can't find the link but there's a thread here somewhere about using the little bottles of auto touch up paint on bolts and spacers which would work on the studs. I just blacked out some spacers using a small can of rustoleum paint and a craft paint brush. Should hold up well on your studs with a little touch up once in a while.

I've got a Night Train and previous owner had the bags, heritage seat, and tank bib all with studs. That plus Jack Daniels Old No. 7 covers on everything. Those came off first. My wife actually likes the look Of the studs and I agree that on some bikes, they definitely look good. Just going in a different direction.

I think I'll photoshop them darker before I decide to paint them or not. If I black them out, I'll post up a picture on here.

I would think that you could brush Rustoleum on them like you can bolt heads. I think that it would take awhile though. I would switch them out if you could.

Mustang sells the black studs that were on the RK's. They look pretty sweet on the Heritage bags I saw in town. A little pricey but won't look as crappy as hitting the chrome ones with touch up paint. I guess you'd really want to keep the bags to go that route but another option that looks really nice.
