Default Combination Analog Speedometer/Tachometer ?

Question for those with the new Combination Analog Speedometer/Tachometer # 70900070. Does it have a light sensor that turns off the display when in sunlight? I cannot see any illumination from the speedo when riding in daylight but when I ride into the shaded garage it lights up and I don't think it's just that its darker in there. It seems to be switched on in dim light and off in bright light.. Is this how its suppose to operate? Thanks....

Yeah, I think it has a photocell. I remember noticing the display getting brighter the first time I had it out in the evening and thinking, "COOL!"

Is there a way to turn it off and on? It's a little hard reading the clock area without it back lit..

I don't think you can. You'd have to see if the instructions make mention of it, but I don't recall seeing that in there.

Manual is vague on all the instructions... If anyone knows a way to disable it let me know.
Thanks for the info!

You could always take it apart and paint the photocell or put some black tape over it if nothing else. It would be bright at all times then.

I can read mine in the sunlight just fine, it will be brighter at night. I do wish there were more dim settings. It looks like a standard gauge in daylight, but you should be able to see the gauge below and all numberts etc. I have no issues.

I have not had any trouble seeing mine in day light as well.

Installed one in my GF's Deluxe at Christmas. Unfortunately we have not been able to ride to even get the 30 miles on the new clock to "marry" it to the ECU. Dont recall anything in the instruction manual for installation about any photocell. That's a bit of stretch for technology for a Harley dontcha think?
