Question Forward controls on a Fatboy Lo?

Hello,
I just spent a couple days cussing at whoever put the bolts on my footboard mount so I could remove it to take off my primary. I'm not sure if I want to put them back, because I feel like I need to stretch my feet forward a little. I sat on a bike that had forward controls (not extended, just normal) and it felt pretty good, even though it had pegs.

Anyone have forward control on their Fatboy Lo? Any pics? How are they for long rides? Control in bad situations?

If I do go forward on this, can you recommend a brand? The parts guy at the dealership recommends the Harley brand because they are strong and won't vibrate, which is important to me.

Finally, how hard is it to replace the footboards with forward controls myself? I'm only marginally handy.

Thanks for any help!

Bump, also interested in doing this with my lo. Or maybe the kurakyn mark IV's would be more reasonable as far as cost and ease of installment

Wow, seems like there isn't a lot of interest in the forward controls...

Forwards are an easy swap if you use Harley's parts. Retains the same master cylinder, you will need a new pedal/pad as the boards are a little different setup. Shifter side you can reuse the kickstand, I'd suggest a new inner shift arm as yours will make the linkage point towards your feet. Also a new shifter since yours would be straight and the forwards use a curve at the splines. If you have a wheel chock to keep the bike up I'd say it's not hard at all, hardest part would be bleeding the rear brake.

Thanks for the reply. Have you used forward controls? How are they for long rides? How about sudden panic maneuvers?

There is another option as well. You can get the brackets that will move the floorboards forward and than you can have the luxury of both worlds. Personally, I would rather have boards as I have the option of moving my feet to various positions on long rides.

Forwards don't give you as many options to "move" around as floorboards.. With an engine guards and foot rests I can move into about 5 different riding positions, which is great for long rides

The forwards.... one position...

I thought about that, but it doesn't move the shifter or brake forward, does it? What kind would you recommend?

Oh, and is the Hogpro where I got my awesome wheels?

Personally I hated the forwards I pulled off the rocker. I found myself riding crotch rocket style consistently with my feet on the pass pegs just to be in a different position. Sudden maneuvers were ok. On another note you can put a 3 inch ness extension on to move the boards forward if you want to push them forward. Basically any of the forward extensions will work as long as it is for a softail in the right year range.

Edit: these kits will move everything forward shifter brake and all. Just because some websites say they don't fit doesn't mean they won't. My rocker uses the same triangle pattern for the board/forward mounts as any other softail. The only issue you might have is hitting the fender at full lock as far as I can think.

Yes this is the same HogPro where you got your wheels. I think these brackets are made by Kuryakyn? As far as the pedals, I know Harley makes and extended brake lever and shift lever as well.
