First thing I did to my Heritage when I got it home was remove the windshield. I decided to put it on temporarily for a weekend road trip a couple of years ago. Hasn't been off since. Much more comfortable at highway speed.
If you ride a bit (~15K/Year here) and you ride fairly frequently at 45 MPH+, once you put a windshield on, the only time it'll come off is when you wash the bike.
Have a windshield hanging on my garage wall with crack in. A big rock came out of a truck tire and bounced it way right into the shield. If it wasn't for the shield, the rock would have hit me in the upper chest. Don't ride without one now.
I commute each day to my work mainly on highway at 70-75 MPH, the windshield is on, always. It's only during the weekend that I take it off, riding then on backside roads...
Well , I guess depends if you like to get hit by **** LOL ! Look, this is a personal preference. I may not like them, but you can ride faster, longer and more comfortable with one. I have an Ultra, and a springer, love both, but I'm abt to put a detachable on the springer, just so I can ride faster, longer, more comfortable, and more often on my springer. I also have a AFU neck, and constant buffeting of the wind is the main reason
I was just gonna say, if you need a windshield, go for it. Nobody's gonna dis you (too) much. . But if you look at some of the baddestass bikes on this Forum, Story's, OS-Deluxe, FireMans, Wargs, any of the NightTrain guys, Ramirez, the Rocker guys, KLF, Vicla guys, some dude who put a nitrous fed hell bike on Skeezmachines thread, crossBone guys, any of the Jim's on the Lo Thread,
HELL, any of these guys aside from NikonF8s cuz he's an exception,
Do you see any windshields?
I'm just sayin.
Take it as you see it.
Some of those bikes are torn apart more then ridden. Some live in areas that dont get below 60 degrees, others are garage ****, some just ride to a show when I ride in the snow... lol
And, dont be disappointed that some may have quick detach shields. Heck, one of the bikes mentioned even had fangs, wind deflectors, on it last year... yep - true dude. Now I'm just sayin.

Noooooo. Say it ain't so.
LOL!
And if it got below 60 here I'd rock a windshield for sure. But don't tell anybody
