I love a decent windshield. Keeps that highway speed wind from beating you so badly. Sand and grit in the eyes kinda sucks too. I started liking them when I had a boat fender fly up out of the boat in front of me and broke the top of my windshield off then smacked the top of my helmet hard enough to give me a stiff neck for a week.
Long Ride Shield new universal shield will work. Its curved at the top so the wind goes over your head. No buffettung and you look over it, not through it. Removes easily. I dont work for them, just tested it and it works great.
Riding home on the highway last night @ 70mph. Can't even imagine doing that without a windshield. Sure I could, but if I already had a windshield, it'd be silly not to use it.
Just get the quick release windshield. I have one and put the thing on if I will be spending a lot of time on the highway. Off the rest of the time. I do the same with the passenger backrest. Still I have the Ultra if I am going any serious distance.

If the fender hit you that high up, you had to be following close behind the boat. I was behind a boat being towed one time when a life jacket flew out, and it hit the road before I got to it. I also had enough time to avoid hitting it and go around it.

My new to me Night Train came with one. It's a smaller Memphis Shades clear one, so even though it's still ugly as sin on an NT, I was hoping it would provide some benefit for me on road trips, etc. It made no improvement, that's all I know. Came off halfway home (30mi) from picking up the bike and into the wife's trunk.
Maybe it's too short for me, I'm 6'2, but the buffeting was enough to drive a man insane. There was just as much wind affecting me with it, as without...only without it was quieter and the wind pressure was more steady.
I was really hoping for more...but either it's too short, too narrow, or both. I dunno, but I doubt I'll spend more money experimenting on a larger one...it'd have to be as big as a sail to do anything near as I can tell....and I'm not fat, LOL.

Anyone know how the height of the HD windshields area measurement, but from top to where?
I've wondered this too. For instance, a Road King has a bigger headlight opening than a Heritage. So if they're measured from the headlight opening to the top a 17 inch RK shield would be taller than the same size Heritage shield. But I don't know if this is how they are measured.
All you lazy buggers get to work and quit keyboard racing. This topic is for old lazy retired guys like me.(or was that retarded) Anyway my first Harley was an 1980 FXWG and because I ride on less than perfect roads(gravel) I put on this little sporty windshield for pertection. Riding down the Alcan HWY a truck flung a rock right into my left middle finger while I was doing 60+ and I don't know how fast he was going. About pi$$ed my pants and whinned like a little girl. Had to cut the finger off that glove to get it back on. Windshields have progressively got bigger. Really it all depends where you're at; weather; road and bug conditions. We get so many bugs here in Ak I wouldn't be found without one plus usually the temps make it a smart choice. I rented a three different bikes while in Hawaii this winter and enjoyed a fatboy like my own with no window more than any of them. No bugs; 65 was probably my top speed; no gravel; so no need. One was a Street Glide and I made it about a mile before taking it back. With the stubby window it blasted my glasses off my head. Traded it for a Road King that was a POS but had a window I didn't need.
always have one. too many rocks skidding across the road and without windshield they would have skidded right across my nose. so i swear by them. although some models just do not look right with them, but like others have said, get a quick detach.. and they pop right off...
