Default Clutch Problems

a friend has an 08 softail custom.. he has 30,000 miles on the bike.. his clutch has become stiff with time.. thought it was bad cable and changed to braided cables but problem is still there.. before we take apart primary what are some suggestions as to the problem.. we are thinking maybe an issue with the ball and ramp on the transmission side but unsure..maybe the basket? any suggestions be greatly appreciated.

My bike is a yr older and 6k more miles on her,, and the clutch still works like the day I got her new..

If Ur friend bought her used then U/he has no way of knowing how she been treated..

U put on a new cable so the cable is not the problem.. Now WTF do U do..

Most of us in here are not True Wrenchs, so In the real world if we get really sick sometimes we have to go see a DR or worse go in the Hospital.

Without knowing the problem Ur having and its been over a day in here without an answer, Maybe its time to see a real Indy wrench or one at the Dealer or at least talk to one.

If it were me and I already changed the cable and made sure the clutch was adjusted properly at the clutch id change fluids and if that didnt do it id pull the plates and investigate. At 30k depending on use you will have a lot of build up inside the clutch. Torn mine a part a few times. I'm at 105k on the original plates and almost no wear.

i hate to say it but i would ask the sporty crowd, i know there are some differences between models and such but the guys i used to turn to on xlforum did pretty much everything you can do with a bike and were awesome at figuring **** like that out....they were all about clutches, man they screwed them and improved them every way possible.
i dont even have a sporty anymore but i still go there for ideas and advice

thanks tips...sorry i thought i had addressed the part about his bike not being a sportster in my first post.

the sportster crowd may have some ideas about his problem.

so just to be clear... i know the op is not asking about a sportster and is asking about a softail....but in my experience the sportster crowd is still a great place to ask about mechanical issues ( would you believe some of those pesky sportster guys actually own more than just sportsters)
in my opinion the sportster crowd i referred to (xlforum) are a lot harder on their bikes that most softail owners (nature of the beast) and have some very good very experienced wrenches in said forum, so even though i do not have a sportster anymore (cant wait to get another one) i still go there for help before i spend money at a garage.
but that is just me

either way i hope Coldmechanic is able to help his friend without spending a bunch of cash on diagnosis... a sick ride sucks.
