I'm considering fork-mounted wind deflectors, but I'm concerned they might obstruct air flow and cause the engine to run hot. Don't really want to get an oil cooler.
i had them on my '09 RK and they do help deflect the wind...also had the lower triple tree wind deflector. the combination eliminated most of the wind off the rider. i did have an ultracool oil cooler. motor never got too hot--but i do feel that the motor did get a little hotter with the fork mounted wind deflectors.
just bought a '12 e.g. classic and added the lower triple tree wind deflector. comes with an oil cooler. did not put the fork mounted wind deflectors on this time. gutted the cat and added xied's--trying to keep motor as cool as i can.
i think there are some adjustable fork mounted wind deflectors available on the after-market.
I have had them since the bike was almost new and have never had a heat issue and the summers in Texas can be brutal. As mentioned, they do eliminate most of the buffeting.
ive had mine on for a while now. i have never noticed any increase in temp. my oil temp guage consistently runs between 180 and 220. although i have an oil cooler and cams, so i run cooler than most. but ive run with and without the wind deflectors and have never noticed any difference. i run them because of the wind buffeting. and they definitely do the trick
