Default Break in time ?

just got the bike back from indy.as my signature reads i had it all done ,top, bottom, heads pistions, crank welded etc.my guy has put 140 miles on this new build, but says to early to put it on a dyno and see full potenial,.i have the tm auto.so its tuned now but he recomends about 1000 miles and then bring it back ,for final tune and check and set piramiters, but claims too early to take it to 100 % throttle.he said i should ride it normal but do not beat on it right away .is this time frame and mileage normal for such a new build as i had done, like i said its like a new motor.thanks in advance for replies... tom

little on the overkill side, but better to be safe than sorry...keep the engine loaded, no luggin around town and keep the revs under 4,500 or so...Do an oil change after 500 miles

I did my 88 to 95 inch last year, same cams, 10.25-1 pistons, race polished heads, over sized valves, and some other stuff.

My Tech told me the same 1000 miles before a dyno tune. Told me the ride it a block or too to bring it up to temp then let it cool completely 15 times to break in the cams and rings.

Then ride it easy for 50-150 miles easy and after that start pushing it a little now and then. After around 250-300 just ride within reason.

At 1000 I have to take it back for a Free Dyno Tune as I had the motor built there.

yes thanks for the replies, look forward to more tonite, like i said hey rode it 140 miles or so ,and at first he was not empressed, but a few more rides and miles ,it started putting him back in the seat,i guess break in period, she will not run to full potentil i dont know mabye some of you do .im just nervous,i want to break iit in properly to get most out of build.also the thundermax should keep correcting it self to stay with in tune ? right.i guess i want to know the raw power and output of this build but i wont know for 1000 miles and then the dyno.

yes, new motors need break in time, at least if you DO want to get the most mileage out of them in the long run.
by all means, you can beat on it now, but that might affect the longevity of certain components...
better to be safe you'll have plenty time in a bit to throw the hammer down on'er
