SE compensator and fuel mileage ???
I installed the SEC this winter and while it cured a lot of vibration and noise issues, i beleive its zapped my fuel mileage. last yr, and fall i was getting 42-45 mpgs. with the winter gear on the bike,( grip shields and eng guard chaps, i'll ride down to 30 degs so its pretty much yr round for me) i pretty much ignore the fuel mileage cuz i know its gonna drop due to more drag, colder temps, winter blend etc.. anyways, now that the weather is nicer and the winter setup is off, though winter blend is still being pumped at stations i'm down to 38-40 mpgs.
the only thing i can figure is the SEC additional weight on the crank is zapping the mpgs. has anyone else noticed this or should i be looking for another cause or just wait until the winter fuel blend changes and see what happens.. other then that i love what the SEC does for the B engine.
TIA..

I can't remember reading any post that has the problem after the SE comp install..
Might look in the touring section. think a lot more of them have changed them out vs us softails.

Crappy gas these days....Try some racing gas at 4 to 1...Oh and one more thing..If you think there is only 10 % alky in the gas think again. I removed almost 5 gallons from over the winter and put it in a bucket and in 2 days it was almost gone. Remember the old day the gas was brown now its clear and evaporates like crazy cuz its not 100%....just a thought...

The only way its coming off without grindind the primary is to unbolt the inner primary and slide it off with the comp
thanks, i'll post over there also.. i hope the powers that be don't bust on me for posting there also..

yes, i replaced it myself and used the grinding method. you'll need to grind the lip off from about the 10:00 position to the 6:00 position. its not hard just a little time consuming. it may have took 20 minutes to grind it down, but i also have some good quality carbide porting bits.. a little hint/trick. i used some spare window air conditioning foam (1"x2") i had laying around and stuffed it back in tight between the old comp shell and inner primary. it kept everything sealed up nicely. i just threw some rags over the clutch assy and tucked the edges in a little to keep it clean..

no problem, good luck and you will be saying holy crap what a difference this thing makes.. if you've ever driven a race car or street car with a shift kit in it, thats what it will feel like.. firmer, more power and smoother.. and quieter.. if you ever heard any 5th gear rattle while cruising at lower speeds, it'll be gone.
one other suggestion if i might.. i don't know how it is on your footboard mounting, but the very first time i pulled my primary outer cover i said there aint no way i'm pulling the board bracket to get THAT one bolt out.. i took my die grinder and notched the bracket just enough to get the bolt out. once that is done, you'll never pull the board or bracket again to get the cover off.. I never even pulled the board to get the compensator out and back in.. it actually made a nice hand support and rest for me while i was grinding out the inner primary. oh don't forget to either paint or apply some silicone sealer over the bracket where you ground it so it don't rust.
one other thing.. let me know what your fuel mileage does after a couple weeks and you let up on twistin the right grip and grinnin ear to ear..
