apes or no apes...?
Just recently traded in my 2010 48 for a new Slim. On the 48 I had 16" apes and absolutely loved them - the only draw back was the long trips on the highway getting blown around like a kite.
I am just curious if putting them on my new softail is going to be worth it - I bought the bike for more comfort on longer rides and if the ape hangers are going to sacrifice my comfort level I don't know if putting them on is the right thing to do... any thoughts?
also - does anybody have the V&H big shot staggereds on your softail and if so, how do you like them?
Thanks - Cole

Apes are a personal thing. I just too mine off my Springer and am so glad I did. Ride the bike for a bit before deciding, that's what I'd do. I can say that even with a set of baby apes I got blown around on the highway when it was windy. Not so much now that I have some knuckle bars.
As for the V&H BSS, I believe the Python Stagger Duals are functionally the same and I've got those on my bike and love them. Real torque-y feel to them with a good bassy note and almost no decel pop.
Here's a video of the pipes comparing them with Hard Kore baffles, stock baffles and open.

The bottem end is about the same with the HK baffles but I did loose a little top end power.

I think you'll need to take a few rides and figure that out for yourself.
I have the BSS and like them. I put the quiet baffles in, they give a deeper tone and they aren't much quieter.

I hated the stock bars on the lo and recently did the 14" carlinis and will never go back. My only suggestion wold be not to go too high unless you love that sort of thing. Long answer short..... APES!!!!!!
If you've already had'em then you know what it's like. But it will be a little different on the slim cuz it's bigger but at 80 that don't matter much.
I run a shield for long over night trips I just pop it off when I get there so I can ride without while i'm there and just pop it back on for the ride home.
Bags pop on and off the same way.
Love the Apes.

those Carlini apes are nice and are closer to 16"??? I do believe just the opposite, whatever length you want go 2" higher for sure!!!
