Default derby cover

Harley shop tells you to change the gasket every time. i go in there and i see them with one screw left at 12 oclock the cover swung up and tighten there to keep it out of the way then they drop it and put in the rest of the screws . check the paper work and there is a charge for a new gasket . i just happen to be in the shop one day and seen this with my own eyes

I never have. I just tighten it till my elbow breaks.
I do however torque the derby screws.

I've had my derby cover off three times so far. No problems. I don't torque the T-27 screws. Just put them in and check after a ride or two.

Question is whether ya gonna run a dime or a nickle adjustment at the lever. Have no idea why ya adjusted the clutch pack, only you know that. I replace that gasket with aftermarket beaded silicone as well as the inspection plate, Torque is snug then gradual titen crisscrossed. How in the hell could you mistake the correct torx is a lil bewildering too...grinz

Man, I have seen that a million times myself at different shops. I had a sales route for 25 years and sold to those dealers and walked around in shops every week in different cities. There are a lot of charges for things they don't use. Not saying every wrench is like that, but I have seen my share of them.

Inch pounds = foot pounds X 12. (ft lbs x 12) e.g. 10 ft lbs = 120 inch lbs
Foot pounds = inch pounds divided by 12 (ft lbs/12) e.g. 120 inch lbs = 10 ft lbs
