Default did my cams today

Well I finally got around to installing my conversion kit and cams today. Thanks to all of your info here on the forum it went pretty smooth. Installed the torrington bearings as well. My original tensioner shoes were hardly worn at all. A little wear on the inside shoe thats it, Ive got just about 15000 miles on her now. I put the Andrews 26 cams in her. Definitely has more pwer but doesnt seem to like below 2000 Rpms I think I might be getting to much fuel on acceleration. I have that fuel pak on her and I know its limited, ill call tech tmrw and see if I cant tweek it for now. I really notice it in 5th gear around 45 mph but once I hit 50 man she takes off like a rocket. Is this normal with this type of cam or do you think I might be loading up on acceleration. My bike is only a 5 speed.

I put the 26's in my old Dyna and LOVED them. I'm sure there's a lot of differences between a carb'd Dyna and an injected Softy, but mine pulled like a raped ape from idle up to red line. I'd definitely see if a re-map is needed.

Not too big a job once you get over the intimidation factor, is it? I rather enjoyed it. Saving $600 in labor helps, too! I'm still tweaking my CheapShot for my Andrews 37s til I save my pennies for something more sophisticated. I imagine V&H should be able to help you. Keep letting us know what happens, Lord knows I need all the help I can get!!

Sounds about right for 26's in an 88". 21's are also common in 88"s because of the earlier close, more compression, more low end then 26's. 26's would be better in a 96" or 95" imo. Tuning always helps and should get better. Swapping the td's for a 2n1 really helps also - been their done that. And Dynas weigh less so low end is less important, noticeable, then for a heavier bike. And riders shifting habits are different. If you typically ride in 5th at 45-50 mph, you prefer lower rpms, low tq.

Good job wrenching your own bike!

The 26's in my bike does a great job. I seldom run lower then 55 in 6th. Thats around 2100 rpm's. They will pull the bike at 50 but I just don't run her that low rpm's in 6th.

In the first 4 gears I just run her at whatever rpms feels good.

With the SERT and dyno tune there is diff vs a Fuel pac tuner.

Maybe U can get her dialed in, ??

I don't know anyone that still used the FP after a cam install. Usually most get a more tune-able system and a dyno around here to get the most out of the cam job.

I actually did remap the fuel pak Before i ordered the cams i called V&H tech to see if they had a map for the setup. He gave me map # 0821 so thats what i loaded up. After my test ride just for ***** and giggles I hopped on their site to see if I could find what 0821 was for and sure enough its for a 95 incher with a diff compression and SE 203 cams. Im hoping maybe he just gave me the wrong one, or maybe they dont have an exact map for me. If thats the case i will be switching to Dyno Jet one anyone have any recommendations as to which model to get. thanx all

The V&H Fuel Pack is great for a stage 1 but have limits with any modifications above that. Research other tuners such as the Power Commander.

Agreed, new map needed. Isn't it amazing what a cam can do for a bike? I will also leave you with this thought since you mentioned it in your original post. If you want a totally new ride, along with your cams, throw a 6 speed in her!! I will never own another 5 speed and if I do ever buy 1 it will only be with the intenton of that being my very 1st mod on her, throw a 6 speed in it. Its just night and day with that 6 speed in it. I can't say enough about it. I know it is not the cheapest mod but still, its a new bike too!!!
