I don't know why people waste money on Iron Bags, or Boss Bags. I asked the Iron Bags sales rep himself how big their bags were and he said they hold 1200 cubic inches...or like 2.1 gallons or something, despite the dimensions being 20"x8"x13.75" which should have equaled 2200 cubic inches per bag" except they and all other manufacturers list tip to tail, bottom to top, and inside to outside. This would be fine except there are curves and angles that are decieving. Harley bags are the same size and they look better in my opinion... I would see buying Boss bags only if you are getting the firm mount as opposed to the quick release... they informed me that only the 38 or smaller can be quick released (I could be mistaking the 40) but that the bigger bags could not be quick released due to the mounting system being like a touring bike setup. They number their bags based on how many cans of soda will fit, and they cost 250 bucks more than harley bags and fit 6 more cans than harley ( Boss 40...Harley 34)...I also personally like the thought that my bags are supported by a lower arm in case of swerving or sudden bumps or both and none of the other bag companies have this feature... oh they stand on the bracket, but that is weight pulling down force only, not force of motion times weight as applied to real driving conditions. I have plenty of money, but Edge bags, Leather pro, Boss and Iron are not worth it to me as Harley Fatboy Leather Quick Detach bags look the best, have the thickest leather ( except maybe Boss, but the style and finish is better on Harley even if the leather is a lil thicker on Boss and I think Harley is thicker anyway) and the safest design as well as the mount system is from Harley and therefore I easily know exactly what I need and have OEM replacement at a local dealer if I need it. On top of all those advantages...If ur purchasing your bike and include the Harley bags at time of purchase I believe you get whatever warranty is on your bike, mine is 5 years unlimited miles, extended on to your bags... I expect to be flamed for this but please include arguments with detailed facts, not the usual forum comeback like, " ur just a dirty poo face, or su%^ it dumb a%%", those are ignorant and I want to actually know why I should buy a set of these bags. If I have missed something let me know and I will concede to the purchase being wise, utill then I don't know why Harley bags have been labeled as inferior or small or over priced. Thanks

Those are the HD Softtail Detachable Leather Saddlebags? So I guess you are satisfied with the size/cost ratio and quality?

Hey Guys,
Here is the HD page:
Detachable Leather Saddlebags - Smooth

These large capacity Detachable Saddlebags are completely removable with the simple pull of the internal handle, leaving your bike clean and ready to cruise the boulevard. The handsome leather bags feature hidden quick-release clips behind the traditional strap and buckle. When removed, the large capacity bags leave behind two simple, inconspicuous docking points. The bags are compatible with both rigid and detachable accessories when installed with the appropriate docking hardware kits. Luggage capacity: 2400 cubic inches total.

90200616A

IN-STORE PURCHASE ONLY Contact dealer for pricing and availability.

Fits '07-later FLSTF and FLSTFB models. Models equipped with Detachable Accessories require separate purchase of Docking Hardware Kit P/N 88256-07. Models without Detachable Accessories require separate purchase of Docking Hardware Kit P/N 53932-03A. Models equipped with Rigid Accessories require separate purchase of Docking Hardware Kit P/N 88298-07. All models require separate purchase of Rear Directional Relocation Kit P/N 69929-07 or 73369-10. Does not fit with Passenger Footboards or Rear Axle Covers.

MSRP US $849.95

I just bought them a few weeks ago, so durability is yet to be seen. I am real happy with the construction. They are hard plastic with a nice thick leather over the hard shell. I also purchase the cigarette lighter/i phone charger and mounted it nicely on the left inner saddlebag. It attaches nicely to my battery tender cable. It was $39.95. I had looked at j and p cycle here at Destination Daytona. They would have had me paying close to $150 for a totally different phone charger set up.

Hope that helps.

DocW, I hope you don't mind, but I just had to do a little comparison.

We could have used that first paragragh for our description, except we have two levers instead of one and our bags are a little bigger, 2550 cubic inches insted of 2400 for our LP3200. (or you could go to 3000 cubic inches with our LP4000 if you got lower pipes).

You don't have to move your turn signals to mount our bags and you don't have to buy any additional kits, all mounting hardware is included. Our bags work with rear axle covers.

LP3200- US $699 LP4000- US $739

The leather on our saddlebags is 9-10 oz which is about twice as thick as the leather Harley uses on it's leather covered hard bags. I know because we buy that exact same leather from the same supplier for our leather covered fairing lowers. It is 5-6 oz.

Our bags come with a 5 year warranty

Our bags have easy lock lids that lock with just the turn of a key.

TennesseeGene- If you like the looks of the Harley bags better, I can respect that, we can't all be the same. I do question how you can say the Harley leather is thicker, you obviously haven't looked closely at our bags or at Iron Bags. As far as needing the 3rd support, have you seen the picture of the guy standing on the bags on our website? I wouldn't recommend doing that on the Harley ones.

Keep ridin'
Garry
