I don't know how I feel about shaving the Sideplate...I do want to keep its looks the way it is, but I am replacing the whole tail light and turn signals next year with an LED turn signal/ tail light so they will be gone anyway and then my sideplate will be shaved...I know one thing though...I will have LP 4037 Bags on my long road trip this year After reading that testimonial, plus that they will be way cheaper, and they are thicker...I would be a fool not to...and they hold more...maybe only 5 or 6 cans of soda more ,but the only draw back is the keyed to match ignition locks, and I still prefer the looks of HD fatboy bags, but These bags are growing on me and never said they looked bad, plus they have external straps so I can tote an extra jacket, ot after a rain store my rain gear outside my bags to seperate them and air dry them...Gotta admit it...I was bein closed minded and I like to consider myself open minded...now what to spend the money I saved on???? LOL
Yea, not trying to sway you either way. I just think they are one of the best options out there, if not THE best option for Fatboy owners are far as price goes.
My personal issue with harley is the fact they try to nickle and dime us over everything. I didnt want to spend any money on a rediculous signal relocation kit that looks hideous.
In my opinion, HD engineers could have easily came up with new detachable sideplates and saddle bag brackets that clear the stock Fatboy signals. It only took me 10 miniutes to fix my side plates to fit. HD could eaisly change the design of the sideplates. Leather Pros came up with a bracket that goes around the signal. HD could have done the same. But they would rather keep their design just to force extra money from our pockets for a signal kit on top of their already overpriced saddle bags and mounting hardware.
For the Price of LP's bags and it included the mounting hardware was a great deal to me.
LeatherPro bags rule! I just put a set on about 2 weeks ago and took my first weekender trip with them. More than enough room for clothing and gear for the weekend and they look absolutely fabulous. I am absolutely thrilled with my purchase!

That is reassuring, what size did you buy and with 2 more bags(harley tour bag and day bag) think i could go for a 2 week trip with little/ no laundry stops...Oh I have the 4037 so I got the long over the top straps as well if needed if that makes any difference.
Here's my 2011 FB Lo with the detachable saddlebags.
Doc, I think those HD bags look great on your scoot. With the exception of some of the HD hard bags and Hog Deluxe's Springer-style offerings, I think the OEMs look best.
DocW, I hope you don't mind, but I just had to do a little comparison.
We could have used that first paragragh for our description, except we have two levers instead of one and our bags are a little bigger, 2550 cubic inches insted of 2400 for our LP3200. (or you could go to 3000 cubic inches with our LP4000 if you got lower pipes).
You don't have to move your turn signals to mount our bags and you don't have to buy any additional kits, all mounting hardware is included. Our bags work with rear axle covers.
LP3200- US $699 LP4000- US $739
The leather on our saddlebags is 9-10 oz which is about twice as thick as the leather Harley uses on it's leather covered hard bags. I know because we buy that exact same leather from the same supplier for our leather covered fairing lowers. It is 5-6 oz.
Our bags come with a 5 year warranty
Our bags have easy lock lids that lock with just the turn of a key.
TennesseeGene- If you like the looks of the Harley bags better, I can respect that, we can't all be the same. I do question how you can say the Harley leather is thicker, you obviously haven't looked closely at our bags or at Iron Bags. As far as needing the 3rd support, have you seen the picture of the guy standing on the bags on our website? I wouldn't recommend doing that on the Harley ones.
Keep ridin'
Garry
I can attest to the great quality of Leatherpro bags. I've used a set in the past and the quality is exceptional.
