What does everyone think about running a higher wattage bulb? Who was done this and what do you think? Anything to watch for besides more heat in the housing??
Agreed, get a Xenon Halogen off EBay. Bought a pair for my Road Glide 3 years ago. The light is a bright bluish white that cuts the darkness much better than stock.
( I ride to work at 5:30 in the morning out here in the woods. I appreciate them! )
Look into the Osram Nightbreaker. I've used them and it's a night and day difference between those and stock. Even the Silverstars aren't even close to these. What's significant is that this bulb is only 55 watts so it won't risk battery drain. Here are some details from their site:
90% more light than a standard OE bulb
Up to 35m longer beam (114 feet longer)
Up to 10% whiter light
Up to 50% longer service life (compared to first generation Nightbreaker)
I run a 55w/100w headlight bulb I got on Ebay. It has been on my bike for 80,000 miles and four years. Still going strong. It really lights up the night when you flip it to high beam. I draws less power then the driving lights and low beam. I highly recommend this set up. Though technically not legal, I have never been bothered by any police officer. Since the low beam is a normal bulb.
Ok still running the stock bulb haven't changes anything yet..but I was riding home a couple nights ago and was smelling burnt plastic...got home tore the headlight apart and the plastic connector on the bulb was gone...I ws riding with brights on since it was 3am...this happened to anyone before?
