Have a set of black fangs that are being made for my 2018 Heritage Softail from JESCustomaccents. They won't be ready until sometime in January. OH WELL!!!!!!
I've thought about putting a set of fangs on my softail but I figure that the removable windshield is enough of an air dam that puts a lot of resistance on the front of the bike. Kind of like driving a snow plow.
I tried just putting the OEM windscreen on my FLSS. The vibration and buffeting was so bad above 25 mph it would give me a headache.
I like having the windscreen when wearing my half-helmet otherwise open air, I need to wear air plugs...
I bought the fangs and had them powder coated black to match the bike. WOW what a difference. With them, 90% of the buffeting is gone and at Freeway speeds, its not bad at all.
I only wish the fangs were easily removable like the windscreen as I don't plan to use the windscreen during warmer months.
I don't know if its real or just my mind, but it "feels" like my bike is slower (slightly) to accelerate or get up to speed because of the windscreen. Maybe its just the lack of wind in my face that makes it feel that way....
I don't know the brand. Found them on the used parts shelf at my local indy shop. I cleaned and polished them and gave the shop owner $20. Here's a pic.
Removed the fangs from my '14 Road King just before the 65 mile ride down to my dealer in Chattanooga for the trade for my new '18 FLHCS. Forgot what a fantastic job they did on my RK as the air blast very uncomfortable on that very cold day. The ride back home on the new bike was equally cold. With a little judicious drilling on the take off Fangs, installed them on the new '18 Softail Heritage. Nite and Day difference, they work great, haven't decided whether to get them Powdered Coated shiny black yet I have now hit the top speed limiter on the bike 5 or 6 times (115 MPH) so far. Completely no effect on speed or handling in the least. A definite must have.
I think problems with wind buffeting is on-going issue until people get a resolution. So even if this thread was 10 years old, if someone has a question about "Fangs" this is a relevant thread.
Also people bitch when someone starts a new thread when one already exists. People complaining that the OP should have used the search function or that there "n" number of threads on the subject. So reviving an old Thread is exactly what should happen when someone has a question (very specific) thats been covered before...
