Not much difference between the heritage and deluxe other than a few factory upgrades and the price tag.
In my case, I got the Heritage because it was the best deal (used) at the time, but I wasn't looking for a 'bagger'. I've stripped everything off, dumped the handlebars, lowered it and swapped out the tall/flat (but comfortable) Heritage seat with a Deluxe seat.
Buying new is a different story though. The stock Heritage is terribly tall and top heavy, so you might want to stay away from them.

yeppers...diff wheels, diff bars, diff seat, diff lights and it been lowered but still same engine/drive train and frame with a higher price tag. I'm like you, buy used and upgrade til end product is what you wanted to start with.
