I had recieved that 40% off coupon in my email.
Took my measurements. (My HD 3" lwr w/shield measures 17& 1/4" from top of HL opening to top of shield). I figured the 17" shield from LRS with the recurve would do the trick.
Shipping was fast (2-3 days) $83 and change to my door.
Material & quality are top notch. I went for the light tint. It was darker that I thought it would be, but ok.
Here's the problem. The 17" (Advertised) shield actually measures 14 & 15/16 from the top of the Hd/Lamp opening to the top of the shield. I sent an email and they got right back to me. I was told they measure from the headlamp itself. I double checked tonight and it measures 16& 1/8 from the headlamp to the top of the shield. So all n all, it's 2" shorter than mine (4.5" lwr than stk) The buffeting is pretty bad.
Also keep in mind, it's narrower. So now, with the chr/lowers, the air shoots over them and gets me right in the face. My one other minor concern was the gap btwn the hdlamp and the opening.
He was real nice in the email. He'll give me the 40% off on a taller 19". I think I'm going to hold off. It's no wider than the 17".
So, no slam on LRS for quality and workmanship. Their measurements are off though. An important topic when trying to get the right height to solve one of our favorite issues.
Here's Pics
I just put mine on last night. Haven't taken a ride yet. Mine was a little shorter than expected too, but when I sat on the bike it was just right. I wasn't aware that it was narrower than stock until I measured it. Hopefully the buffetting isn't too bad.
Following this thread since the 21'' HD King is way too tall for me. Heck, I can look thru it instead of over it LOL but I am really looking for something that creates a better air flow. How much narrower is the LRS than the HD? Keep us posted.
The LRS shield is 1 1/2 narrower than stk. Doesn't sound like much,
but it's enough to make a diff. Maybe w/o the chrome deflectors on there?
But w/o those it's like having 8 powerful leaf blowers pointed up at you, all
switching on n off.
Again, not trying to nit-pick. Just want people to be aware.
Sounds like your original shield was about the same height as my 12 heritage stock shield. I bought the 19" and was considering ordering the 17 for summer. I actually have to look through the 19" and I also bought the lightly (or so they say) smoked. It is too dark to look through at night. I measured my width and it measures about 20 3/4" in a straight line at the widest part... Cant remember what the original shield was and it is buried in the shed. I have a lot less buffeting but still get some.
BTW... Mine measures pretty much 19 straight up the shield from the headlight.
Shipping was slloooow but no fualt of LRS. UPS must have put it on a donkey to get to florida. It took better than a week.
I took advantage of the LRS discount & ordered the 19"
today. Right now, I have the 21"stock height (TALL)
shield on there. It works. Buffeting is minimal to none. I
am looking thru it though, which I am not crazy about.
So, I ordered the 19" clear. Should be here by the end of
next wk (if it's like last time) They're just in Sparks (right
by Reno) So only a couple hundred miles.
I'll have another report when it's on.
They said they would take the 17" back but there will be
a restock fee. Plus, I'll be out the frgt. So, if someone is
interested, there might be a good deal to be had.
