Rim job, ya suppose?
I've left the stand down and come to a stop without putting my feet down. Now, THAT's a surprise! Talk about dumb-***.
Too much safety equipment from people falling off ladders and spillin coffee in their laps, blaming someone else for their own stupidity.

However, I ask a simple question about a safety switch and I get a bunch of guys poking me in the chest with insinuations that safety switches ain't manly!! Another new guy posted a thread recently about doing his own 1000 mile service and the foul mouth rants that followed were nothing short of embarrassing.

I'm starting to wonder if that camaraderie that I was looking to take part in was just an illusion.
"Dude" it ain't got **** to do with manly hood. It's got to do with it ain't being needed! Then you sling the lawsuit comments in there and it would seem from my comprehension ability or lack thereof, it sounds like there are a bunch of us who have commented who are sick of the lawsuit threats and bs for people who do dumb **** like catching their pecker in their zipper bs. If you can't remember to put up a damn kick stand maybe you should considering rigging up something that will do it for you.

And if you don't have a little thicker skin, and can't take a little heat, or poking in the chest you might find your butt hurting with all your expressed sensitivity.

Really? Well... how about those underwear in your pants? You can't zip up without catching your tiny little *****???? Or maybe you can't seem to finish peeing before you get it put back in. Is that why those were needed?

How about your fuel gage? Can't remember to put gas in the bike?

What about the cage around the fan in your bedroom? Are you not smart enough to keep your hands out of the blades?

I could go on with thousands of examples but I think the point is clear.

Maybe it is more convenient having your head stuck in the sand.... but I live in the real world. You can be pissed off at the lawsuit threats... but that doesn't make them go away. One good lawsuit and I guarantee you that all new Harleys will have a safety switch.

But guys like you can deal with legal issues by simply ignoring them. So... obviously you don't have insurance on your bike because you would never crash it. Obviously you don't have homeowners insurance because you would never allow your house to catch fire. No need to hire a lawyer when falsely accused of a crime because you are innocent... right? All this **** is unnecessary... isn't it?

If you can't remember to put up a damn kick stand maybe you should considering rigging up something that will do it for you.
As many people on this thread have already recognized.... most people have taken off without putting up their sidestand at least once. So, if you can't keep your foot out of your mouth, maybe you should just keep it shut.

My skin is plenty thick when it comes to good natured ribbing.... but I really have no use for someone who acts like a jerk just for the sake of being a jerk.

My right leg is about an inch 1/2 shorter now (wonderful Army docs) because I forgot to put the sidestand up on a '77 Sportster. (hip, ankle, and 7 ribs healed up better) The sidestand locked in place instead of kicking back/up on a fast left sweeper. That was in '77 and I've been pretty good at checking my stand since then.

and when you're 500 miles from home, and that safety switch goes bad, and 'senses' your kickstand is down, and your bike won't run .... then what?

Harley does have a safety switch that shuts your motor off if you lay the bike down. It went bad on a friends' bike when he got it out of his garage one day. Since he was home all it cost him was missing a nice afternoon ride.

Seriously? That's all you got? It may malfunction? Then why should we have EFI?? After all, that ECM may malfunction when we are 500 miles from home... then what??

You know... for the arrogant "if you can't figure it out, you shouldn't be riding" crowd.... you may notice that if your bike is in gear, it won't start without the clutch being pulled. Why is that? SAFETY!!! So.... why do we tolerate that piece of "unnecessary equipment"? Hell, all you have to do is make sure you pull the clutch before you push the start button.... right?

BTW... Bill in OKC... I'm really sorry to hear about your leg.

That's funny. Mostly cuz I can picture that happening.

If you want the sensor, the part number is: 49716-08A (Jiffy stand sensor, with 72169-07, 72511-07BK, 73213-07 - HDI, England)

You will also need screw part number 3594 to fasten it.

I'm sure the dealer can activate it with his "digital technician"

As for it failing ... is a simple magnetic switch activated (or better de-activated) by the near presence of the jiffy.

Guess there are more problems with the security system than jiffy stand switches.
