Default 94 Softail wont start.

New to the forum. Picked up an older used 94 FLSTC last summer. It has always been a little slugish to start but after 4-5 minutes of warmup all was good. Sat thru the winter for about 5 months. Tried to charge the battery but it wouldnt hold so installed new battery. Bike cranked over and I rode it a few times; topped off the tank with fresh gas. (50/50 old and new). Today the bike did not want to start but it did. Took about 10 minutes of trying. warmed up ok and off I went. Got 2 miles from the house and stopped at light, bike stalled out. Got it restarted after a couple cranks. Went another 3-4 miles and let of the throttle for the light and it stalled again. Turned back around and brought it home. Stopped and got new NGK plugs. Old ones were last year, Front clean, rear slightly sooty/gray. took off air cleaner as I had a throttle adjustment to make to.(sticking open when bars where turned right) After throttle adjustment, new plugs installed bike fired right over, then stalled again and will not restart now. Engine turns over, Carb is getting fuel...with cover still off and you goose the throttle you can see it squirt in. any ideas???

I had a problem with sluggish acceleration. I replaced the fuel line with a new one an pulled the carb float bowl an found a little gunk in it. Cleaned the bowl an sprayed up into the carb from underneath an all's fine.

Could be a problem with the voltage regulator, but that wouldn't explain everything you described. It is a cheap part to replace that is done in minutes and would eliminate one more possible problem. Might as well change your plug leads while your at it.

I am having the same issue. I replace the battery, the relay, the regulator, plugs and new wires. It is getting fuel and will turn over however it just wont start. Im not sure what else to replace or check. I know all the wiring is good.

I cleaned my carb and it was good. It seems as though the plugs arent getting spark and firing.

Sit all winter and just now fired her up ,, U sure she didn't sit 7-8 months..???
Here in IND we stored ours last NOV.. so for us it'd be Nov-June thats more the 5..

Did U put any sta-bil or other kind of gas treatment in the tank,????

If not U may just be gummed up in the carb.. if so U need to clean the carb out.

Mine was running fine. Not cutting out or stalling. The battery died and I tried to charge it but it wouldnt hold the charge so i replaced it and no spark.

Perform a voltage regulator check using a common multi meter. As long as your voltage regulator is not outputting over 14.9 volts, your regulator is okay. The problem sounds more mechanical to me, as electrics are normally either there or not. Sounds like it could be dirt in the float (as someone else suggested), or possibly a plugged petcock screen. Pull the petcock and see what you get out of your tank. If it sat all winter, with no changes to the bike whatsoever, I would say its something to do with the fuel system.

To OP: Service (clean) the carb. Double check for a good spark.

To Anorris1221: No spark? If so, look at plugs, wires, coil, ignition module, in that order.
