I am also 5'11" and with an 07 Fat Boy. Found myself in the same dilemma you have and for a while I was researching which windshield to get. I recently movedand now I have to get on the freeway to commute to work. Speeds of 70+ mph are brutal specially when windy, with debriand big semis all over, I could not stand it anymore, solast night I stopped by my local dealer and sat on a couple of bikes. On aheritage the"standard" windshieldtop sits right accross the center of my eyeballs (not comfortable). On a Road King, with the "standard" windshield, you look over the windshield,I guess the top of the windshield would be level with the tip of my nose. No Fat boy with a windshield to try. They only had a "standard" shield in stock and did not want to wait 1 week to get a lower profile (lightly smoked) and more expensive one, so I got it and installed it last night, it was a snap, plus I gota 10% discount. Now I look through the windshield, the top aligns right with the top of my eyebrows, no distortion, quite clear and comfortable, you just have toget used to it. 100% protection from the wind on a motorcycle is unreal, at cruising speeds I give it a 95% wind deflection, at freeway speeds around 85-90%. Never the less, now I don't have to fight the wind at all, some buffetting on my head still occurs and a light breeze reaches your face from the sides, but it all depends on your speed and wind direction.
Only one drawback, if you can call it that, is that engine noise is deflected from the windshield towards you, and is rather annoying, I may have to wear plugs; is indeed noisier. The same goes for the transmissionclunk, itis $#i++i loud. Hope this helps. Part # 58243-95

I have the HD Low profile smoked on my 05 fatboy and am very happy with it. No buffeting. I can ride with out glasses on and I dont even gey enough wind to bother the eyes. I'm 6'3" and the top of the windshield is between the chin and the tip of my nose. When I hold my hand out in front of my head I can feel the wind buffeting just above my head. I also bough a 5 inch lower that stock (2 inch lower than my shield) replacement shield from Cee Bailey and installed it and the wind hit me right in the eyes and forehead and shook the helmet.

I have read on this and other forums were riders hate the low shield and complain about wind. I think that a lot of it has to do with where you are located on the bike (realationship to the windshield)as well as how tall you are. I also have a C&C Seat and it lowers me and moves me back on the bike.

Since there is so much different opinion on heights either buy the tallest one you can get and cut it down until you like it. Or if you have a good dealer buy the lowest one , install the quick release studs and try both the standard and the low. My dealer let me try on the standard height shield and go for a short ride and then return it.

I am very happy with the low, I dont like to look through the windshield and I like the looks better .
Can you post a picture?

Waltman

Thanks for the information.....it is very helpful.
I hear fromothers that you should look over the windshield otherwise if it rains visibility becomes really bad. Has that been a problem for you?

Tom and Dugan: I will post pictures.

Smitbrad,

Rain has not been a issue, YET!! However, with a lttle effort you can look over the shield.

On my previous bike I had a pretty tall windshield (21") that I have to look through. It was great from the wind apsect, but over time from having to clean the windshield and normal wear that light scratches/swirls would develop. Normally it wasnt an issue and not really noticeable, but on one particular ride we were riding right into the setting sun and the light scratches/swirls made it almost impossible to see through the windshield.... a serious safety problem. And, cause it was a fairly tall windshield, I couldnt see over the top of it easily. So, I ended up looking around the side of it.

My advice is that even if you get a tall windshield that you have to look through, make sure its not too tall that you cant see over it.
