07 Fatboy Windshield
Texfatboy got me to thinking. I've had my Fatboy for about a week with the short shield. I'm only 5'6" but the buffeting going to work felt like a jackhammer on my head. After reading HDF posts on the subject for a while, I got the fork wind diverters and that helped a lot. But the jack hammering started at around 57mph instead of 48mph. Still not acceptable.
Texfatboy reminded me that my old Goldwings in the early 80's had tall windshields. I was always looking through them and thought nothing of it. Since I have a 27 mile commute at highway speeds, comfort is paramount. So, I went down today and got the standard height. What a difference. No jack hammering at all up to 70mph on the freeway. After that there is some body buffeting, but no head buffeting.
In summary, looking through the windshield is not a big problem if that's the solution to the irritating wind buffet.

I like my Fatboy windshield (WS) - had it put on when I bought the bike. I have taken a few rides without it one of 125 miles .... will not do that again. The guys I ride with, I don't know how they do it without a WS, one rides a 07 RK and does not use a WS.
When I rode without my WS, I got pretty tired, and I even had a hard time feeling comfortable, and I did not think the bike was as stable riding twisty roads, going into corners and such and not as stable at 75 mph freeway.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
mark
