Riding with music?
I dont think hearing makes much of a safety difference, its all about keeping an eye on things for me...besides no matter how good your earbuds or stereo are you always hear sirens on a bike anyway.[/QUOT
Motown
I have to disagree from two stand points. First when I used to ride with skull candy ear buds I could not hear cross traffic sirens or air horn in the city and I also could not hear them on the highway only would see the lights. But pd will out run the siren at 55 mph, so not the best example. Second coming from my work stand point as a full-time FF have seen way to many times bikes fly through intersections or not yield when behind them. Granted riders of all bikes do this but since it happend to me I now notice that black wire usually flying behind the head that goes to their ear buds. I did like the skull candy buds because they had a volume control on the wire so at stops you could lower it but like I said when moving to be able to hear the music over a fat cat on a mildly built motor I could hear nothing else. To each their own though.

My ears are kind of small so I divide the the plug material so I can do 2 sets. I mix the material and insert it deep into the canal. I remove the interchangeable ear pieces from the buds place a small piece of tape over the end so no material will get in the buds. Insert the earbuds in material paying attention to the direction. You want the speaker to line up with the ear canal. I like to put them deep and then form the material around the bud to encapsulate it in the material. Let the material set up and remove. You will have to do some trimming to "open up" a hole for the music to come through. There several tutorials on line and there was even a write up on here some time ago.
Thanks
I guess ear buds aren't safe and they definitely could cause you to miss a critical warning that could cost you your life but hell we should all be wearing Mil Spec fluorescent vest too but how many do?
How many guys run RTB's? That would seem like a no brainer too but allot of guys dont.
This is not a safe hobby no matter how you look at it...we all try to mitigate the risks as much as we can until its degrades the experience, hell I am in a no helmet state and I still wear a Licks NovDot. Like another said...to each his own I guess.

I freaking love them and I can reach my hand to my ear pause, change volume, and change songs. These are the first I've had where the bass cuts through.

I tried those...the bluetooth range was very limited. The straps on my half helmet and my jacket collar (becasue it snagged the wire) kept knocking them loose when I turned my head.
Off the bike they were good.
They come with different ear tips to fit different ear canals. They block enough ambient sound to make riding less fatiguing but not so much that you can't hear the traffic around you.
Music sounds pretty good thru them and the latest have buttons on the wires that let you control your music player (vol, pause, ff, rew) without having to dig into your pocket for it.
