Default Relocated Coil = Higher Temps?

Thinking about relocating my coil to the mount that holds the horn on most softails (my horn, as you can see, is on the forks).

My concern is that having the coil located where a cowbell usually resides may impair the airflow around the cylinders and consequently raise engine temps. Since I have true duals, the fake "seatpost" can easily be removed if I relocate the coil (aiding cooling, I suspect).

Anyone who has relocated the coil have any first-hand experience with this?

That is the stock location for the Blackline (and Rocker, I think.)

did mine, doesn't obstruct any "air flow" any more than the horn does, certainly not enough to raise the temps on the cylinders.. used the spark plug wires from a stock Rocker, and just made a backing plate out of some 1/8" steel

I've thought about doing the same thing. The left side of the engine is sorta naked without the horn there on a Springer.

No concerns at all, gents! Remember, the throttle body is mounted between the jugs, so not a lot of air moving between them anyway.

I did this on my 03 HS. And I also removed the phony seat post.

You can either get the bracketry from DK Customs, or make your own; I chose the first option.

The cables you need are for a Rocker. My only change would be to have stuck with black cables, and their on my list of things to swap over.

**Also, I chose to eliminate my passing lamp switch altogether, and hardwired my lights. I never turn them off, even on my Street Glide. Much better lighting, with them on, and I can run them now with my brights.

Here's another picture:

I like it better sans the cover too. It's just too bulky with the cover on, mounted on the side like that.

I haven't noticed any increase in temps with the relocation. I like how removing the seat post opens up the area behind the rear cylinder.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I'll start my bracket fabrication soon. Seems like a pretty easy move.

The stock wiring seems long enough to make the coil move without extending the wiring to it. Now if I only had another one of the stock "short" spark plug wires, I would be all set.

Maybe I am strange but I liked the way the cowbell for the horn looked better than the coil cover so I fabbed my own bracket and used the cowbell to hide the coil. I had to swap the C/D wires in the coil tho so I could turn it upside down and not have to cross the wires.
