I picked up my 2010 crossbones through military channels. I live in the midwest and not Cali. But they sent me a CA model. If I pull the ugly epa can and plug all the lines will there be any performance changes? Has anyone done this? I want to ditch this thing since I will never be in CA. Also is there any other CA specific mods? Thanks guys, love the forum.
PS if your gonna hit me with the whole enviromentalist speech, please know...I RECYCLE!
Hated that can on one of my metric cruisers I bought in CA back in 1988. Hard to say because the filter could be somehow controlled/conected to bike computer & might throw code if disconnected. Guess it's worth a try - what's the worse result...ECM code...
Guessing you didn't discover when bike was new, or didn't think it would be a problem then? I would've had them fine a non-CA bike...
Not worth the time or effort to remove for me. It will not improve performance with or with out it. It just filters gas fumes, vapors. If it were not hidden so well and could be seen like some other bikes, then I'd remove it. Or, if you were installing air shocks or something and it was in your way.
that can is a charcoal canister, filters fumes from tank and crank case and releases to atmosphere. its ugly, doesn't show on the bagger model will not affect performance at all by removing it. the tree huggers will come and get you at night though!!!

throwing beer back up on the lawn does not constitute recycling. nor does peeing on the bushes!!!
you dont need to plug the tank, just let the line that runs down to the canister stay in place cut it at the place you want it stays a vent just to atmosphere instead of canister
Cool! Thanks guys. Thats what I was hoping to hear. I was just curious if there was a reason to replace that line or not. It seems removing the can and leaving the line would be just fine. Appreciate the help!
