Default Which shock for a 2010 Street Glide?

I've done the searches, I've read the reviews, but very few are talking specifically about 2010 Street Glides -- which we know feel different than '08's and '09's.

Soooooo, which shocks are you guys going with? The stock shock just isn't cutting it for my girl and I. It's not the handling, the handling is fine, it's the stiffness. I've played with the air levels and honestly, no air for me (180lbs) and like 10-15lbs with her on the back is the BEST so far, but it still seems to JAR us. I don't mind feeling a bump, it's a motorcycle, but I don't want it to JAR back and beat our lower backs.

So, again, which shock is everyone going with? I want a 12" shock, not a 13.... has anyone tried those "HD Premium Lowered Touring Shocks" yet? I just want something that absorbs the bumps a little better and isn't so quick to rebound.

Nothin? Someone's gotta know something! I've been looking at the Progressive 440 and 940's also, but I'm concerned that they are "stiffer" to handle better.... or is it a "stiffer" yet not JARRING ride?

It seems to me that the stock air shock just can't rebound all that well and as I ride over a bump, it's either too soft and bottoming out or so stiff that not only does the bump feel crisp and hard, but the bike bucks and slaps my *** -- thus pounding my lower back over the course of the day.

Which ones are you guys using on your 2010's and how do you like 'em?

FYI, I'm about 180lbs when riding solo and with the girl we're at around 310lbs total.

I don't think you will get a decent shock at 12" long that is a dead cert to not jar. I finally stopped my bike from bottoming out with custom-built Ohlins from HDF sponsor Motorcycle Metal. Give Howard there a call, he can supply various build lengths and will explain the benefits of them.

I'm willing to accept that on serious holes, bumps, tracks etc, I am going to get some jarring with a 12"... that's fine. What's happening now though, no matter how I adjust the air level (it does get better or worse, but it's still never good) is even mediocre road-bumps, not holes, just bumps and waves, are causing a jarring affect that wears our backs down -- not our butt -- our back.

Hoping someone can give me a real-world experience with a 2010 SG change they made that stopped this while keeping a 12" shock.

What's the difference between the 09 shocks and the 10's? Same frame etc. just buy some 09 shocks I guess. My manual says 50# for two-up.???

I put HD touring shocks (13") on my '10 SG.
There was no change in seat height as compared to the stock low profile shocks.
The ride on the hand was improved 100%.

ithink the hd premium touring shocks are actually 12" and are stock on the sg-se, right? This would explain why theres no difference in height? Yours have the hand-adjustable ***** right? One on one shock the other on the other shock?

Can anyone compare an HD premium tour air shock vs a good quality progressive spring shock (such as the progressive 940?)

Anything you put on will be an improvement no matter the length. You might also check out Ricor shocks.

When you say improvement do you mean with the jarring/harshness, handling, or all of the above?

Talked to the Progressive guy up here at Lanconia and he told me he had already replaced three sets of shocks on the CVO SGs which are what I believe are the premium shocks referred to here. He also told me that the 440s are redesigned and have the same internals as the 940s, the "droop" feature being the only difference. I would like to improve the rear on my '10 RG also just don't want to do it twice. I agree that the addition of a passenger does require the full 50 lbs. Riding solo I'm geting best results between 35-40 psi. I don't believe you will avoid bottoming with the air settings you are using. Would like to hear if anyone has tried the old style (09 RG) shocks and what result. BTW the CVO SG has an 18" rear wheel so that may afect ride height and quality somewhat. I got to ride the CVO on some pretty rough pavement up here and it was better than stock but I'm not sure $500 better.
