Default Springer Risers

Hi folks,

I'm new to the forum, but been around a while

I have Wild 1 drag bars with the stock 4" risers on my 2000 springer, but I'm changing to apes. I'm going with Todd's Cycle 18" bars and I want to use a riser that is 2" or less. I'm looking at riser options and there are 2 that I like. I could go with Wild 1's new Stubby Chubby springer risers (WO533) or I can use an adapter like V-Twin Mfg 37-0864 and use some non-springer risers.

I like the Wild 1 risers, but they aren't cheap at around $225. I already have some nice risers from a Dyna that would work if I can get the adapter, but it seems that the adapter (37-0864) is not in stock anywhere.

I've seen the adapters and other triple trees that let you use bars/risers that aren't specific to just Springers, but I don't like that option.

Has anyone used V-Twin's 37-0899 adapter? Or is there another adapter or option?

TIA,

--jack

Not sure which springer you have for 2000, but I went the route of the adapter plate. Mine is made by Carlini, and was $165. It's not an adapter that bolts on, but rather replaces the entire upper tree.

Quality is top notch, and I am quite pleased with the part. And now I can use whatever bars I want.

I have a 2000 FXSTS (pic below). I saw the replacement upper triple trees like the Carlini, but I don't want to go that route even though some of them look like quality parts. I took a good look at the Dyna risers I have and they aren't going to work even if I used a 37-0864 or 37-0899 adapter.

I saw a pic of the 37-0864 adapter installed and didn't really like it much anyway. So it looks like I need to save up a few more $$$ and get the Wild 1 Stubby Chubby risers (WO533) or something similar. But I'm still open to other ideas...

Make sure that using a riser of 2"or less will allow the bars to clear the tank.

Heritage Springer stock risers are 3"

Why not just keep the ones you have and use 16" bars?

Here's an old pic:

Cool. Carlini has two (I think) for the FX springers. The regular, and the fat springer plate. One is just flared out by where the riders bolt up.

I chose this route for a few reasons. First, I kept reading about the risers on the springers stripping when tightening the bolts. I didn't want to deal with that, or deal with pinning my bars to keep them from rolling. Second, I wanted to use a one piece top clamp. Helps to keep the bars from rolling, or even worse, cracking between the risers. Thirdly, I wasn't really fond of the springer style bars that were available.

hspring03 brings up a great point. Make sure that things will clear your tank. I ran some 1.5'' Dyna risers, but stuck with the LA Choppers Nice Curves, which may be 8-10'' wide at the bottom, I didn't measure. They're very narrow.

Good luck, there are a lot of options to consider.

Yep, I'm looking into that. I'm pretty sure they will based on my measurements and this thread (although I can't see the pics now):

That's good to know, I've been looking for that info. Thanks.

Because I'm afraid the bars will move if I hit a decent bump and I don't want to strip the riser trying to tighten them. I've had issues with that before and I want to avoid it. IIRC, I had 16" apes on my EVO springer years ago and having the bars move was an issue.

Do you have a good pic of that setup? It might help sway me to do the same. Thanks,

Here are the two that Carlini shows on their website:

http://www.carlinidesign.com/harley-...late/index.php

When I called them to order, I told them I had an FL springer front end, and they have a third plate not shown, specifically for my model.

And here are a couple shots of it installed:

I swapped out my top clamp for a 100th Anniversary clamp. The Carlini stuff comes with all the required hardware, chromed.

I'd wager that only other springer guys would even recognize that you made the swap. It looks stock.

Thanks for the pics, it does look nice. It looks like it also moves the risers about 1/2" or so closer too. What kind of bars are those?
