Default Opinions on Trading My Heritage for an Ultra

I have a lead on a guy interested in trading his 2007 Ultra for my 2004 Heritage + some cash. Here's the deal. 2007 Ultra Pearl black, 103 kit, true duals with rhinehart mufflers, chrome front end, brembo brake calipers, new rear tire, heated grips, air horn and other chrome goodies. 12,000 miles, second owner, photos I've seen look like it's in nice shape.

Mine is a 2004 Heritage, sierra red, 95" kit with andrews 26 cams, heads street ported, dyno tuned, hydraulic clutch, chrome controls, true duals with rush mufflers, chrome front end, new tires, battery, brakes, perfect paint, quick detachable bags and backrest, 14,000 miles. It came new with $5,000 in dealer added accessories.

He's asking for my bike + $3,700. I haven't actually ridden it yet and I've asked for some paperwork on what was done for the 103" kit.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I guess if you are happy it's not bad - seems a tiny bit high though. A 2012 Ultra is a seriously different M/C than a 2007 - 6 spd, 6 gallon tank, 103 engine and a different frame etc. - whereas the 12 Heritage is a six speed and 103 but the rest of the bike is pretty similar. Maybe a little more cash will get you a 09 or newer RK, SG, RG, or Ultra and basically you would be at the head of the line for a while - just sayin.

An 04 Heritage will be a 9 year old motorcycle here shortly... thats something to consider, as for the Dresser is it the full blown Ultra or the Ultra Classic? The 07's as I recall had TERRIBLE heat managment issues with the 96 as I recall it was so bad people's legs were getting burns I think in 08 they added the cylinder shut down and heck in 09 they changed the whole bike frame to re-route the exhaust no... 07 was not a good year for the big twins... just something to consider... I had a 04 Heritage too, sometimes I miss it

I'm not sure if it's an ultra classic, but I think so. It has the rear speakers and intercom system. Would the 103 kit and true duals help with the heat issue? thanks for the replies.

NADA is $3100 difference...so if you really like the bike, I would offer $2700 and be firm....lot of deals out there.

I'd pass...too much cash involved and if I were looking to get into a touring bike it would 100% be for the newly designed frame no questions

If the touring bike was an '09 or newer with the updated frame or the larger 103 engine, I might go for it. But for an 07 with the old style frame, I would keep your Softy and your cash.

Thanks for the replies. The $3,700 cash was his starting point, I'd be offering less. He said it got 86 hp and 102 torque, sounds like the stage 2 103 kit. Still waiting for documentation on the build. Probably leaning toward waiting on an '09 or newer.

I get what everyone is saying about the newer frames and motor, but heck, your '04 doesn't have any of that now. If it's a bike you want for longer rides, go for it.

We all sit here and can say a newer bike has this and that, and it's only a little bit more $$$. But then the '10 would be better than the '09. Then the '11 is better than the '10....... A new one is better than used one. A little $$$ here, a little $$$ there, all of a sudden your spending $10k+ more than you started out. Just something to think about.

Well said, thanks. I got copies of the receipts for the 103 stage 2 kit, HD race tuner and dyno tune, all done at Kelley's House of HD in Billerica, MA in 2007-08. Took test rides yesterday on an '09 SG, 2010 EG Classic and RG. Very different feel than my heritage to say the least. I felt almost cramped for room for my legs. Highway pegs wold help of course. Tough choice, I appreciate the input everyone has given.
