Need some help for a friend as I ride a dyna. I don't know much about softails. My friend just got a 2001 Duece custom and I took it out for a ride last weekend. I am trying to figure out what is making the bike surge when in low RPM and when you throttle down. There is a click click and the bike surges. I have check the normal plugs, adjusted the idle screw a bit to help keep gas while idle, and really not sure were to go from here. Any input it helpful.
I had a lot of stumbling at low RPMs and typically I'd have to give her gas while coming to a stop or she'd stall; until I replaced the speed sensor. After that it's perfect. I do have EFI though so that may not be your issue.
Does the odometer work? If not it's likely the speed sensor.
Speedo is good when running fast the bike is fine. It is just at slow or low throttle that we get this click and surge from the bike. It sounds like the click is coming from the front of the bike. Could the voltage regulater be a cause? That is the only thing really in the front of the bike that I see.
I should probally add that the bike has been sitting for a year without being ran. I also am thinking it could be the plugs causing this issue. I think we will change out the plugs and see were that gets us.
