Default Softail Lowering Kit

http://www.jpcycles.com/product/700-210

Has anyone used this on their Softail?

I'm interested to know if it is as simple as installing these babies and then adjusting your ride height.

Also, what drawbacks has anyone found with these? How low can you go before you start hitting wheel?

Thanks in advance!

Haven't used this particular kit, but I'm running 2" lower on the $16 eBay bolts with no issues. You can theoretically run on the bump stops without rubbing the tire, but the ride would be pretty stiff. I also jacked up the preload a little to prevent bottoming out on big bumps and potholes.

I did not use that brand. I used these http://www.ebay.com/itm/00-11-HARLEY...sories&vxp=mtr which require taking the shocks apart which is not as hard as it sounds. They are the same quality as all the higher priced name brand lowering bolts.

I don't believe you will be able to hit the wheel. The swingarm travel will bottom out before the wheel hits the fender.

Well, those are a lot cheaper and I'm sure I can find a guide on taking apart the shocks or even have my mechanic do it for me. Once these are in place, do you need to take apart the shock again to adjust the ride height?

I actually used the milwaukee twins kit and dropped mine 2" , just make sure you have a press or access to one. Once on they are easily adjusted

Adjusting the ride height after the bolts are installed is just a matter of loosening the front crossmember nut and running the rear crossmember nut forward to lower and rearward to raise. It's easiest to do on a jack, but it can be done with the bike sitting on the ground as well. To adjust the preload you'll need the spanner wrench, which can be gotten at your local dealer for about $15.

Any idea how much would it run me at a dealer to have these installed?

I hate to sound anti-do it yourself, but if it's a matter of spending $30 then I'd rather spend it and get it over with than driving to my dad's house to have access to a jack, tools, etc.

I've got a local guy I go to so I will see what he says. If not, I will learn something and try my own hand at it. Thanks, guys!
