I just bought an 03 Heritage Classic with V&H Long Shots. My wife and have a wireless intercom system we use to talk to each other and the V&Hs are too loud. We're looking to get something quieter.
Was talking to my shop mechanic today about getting quiet pipes and he said that the SuperTrapp SuperMegs (the ones with the discs) are not much quieter than the long shots.
Is he full of crap? I've read that the SuperMegs are about 15 db quieter than Long Shots. We've also thought about Silent Series pipes, but I don't want too quiet.
How quiet are the supermegs compared to the long shots? Does anyone know of a side-by-side comparison?
Either the DkCustoms Thunder Torque inserts or V&H baffle #21269 will quiet them down quite a bit. V&H are $21 apiece at Dennis Kirk and bolt right in. The inserts from DK are $20 for a pair, but you have to drill the baffle hole to make them fit. The inserts are a take on the "lollipop" style of baffle. Running the V&H right now. Nice sound with the power on, pretty quiet at cruise. Any kind of baffle will help it run better, too. Really woke up mine. Hope this helps.
Thanks! Yeah, I tried the baffle route. I'm not a mechanic, so I'm a bit ignorant of the internals, but my mechanic had trouble installing the baffle because of some insert that wouldn't come off and he didn't want to risk breaking it. For sure $20 sounds better than $750!!
So, I guess I'm back to my original question of comparing the pipes to one another.
I'm leaning towards the SuperMegs, but I'm really curious how much quieter they are from my current pipes.
The V&H Quiet Baffles will make it rumble, I ran them before I went to the Propipe. Wouldn't recommend running without baffles, sounds like **** and robs you of low end torque. Never mind, just saw your last post.
