I recently got a 22 inch full sized windshield for my Fat Boy. Not what I was expecting at all. This thing is enormous. I'm six feet tall and this windshield towers over my sight line. It was brand new in the box, but theres no returning it since I swapped it for a set of handle bars from a buddy. So my question is...... do I chop this one down to say 14, 16 or 18 inches, or sell it on ebay and buy a shorter one? Either way, what size detachable windshields or you guys running on the FL style Softails? I have 14 inch Chubby apes by the way.

I run Harley's low profile lexan. Its 17 inches from headlight cut out to top of windshield. I'm 5'10" and I look over it. I think replacement lexan is about a 100 bucks.
The OEM windshield that came on my `89 Heritage was pretty high, it was also above my sightline, (6 ft. tall). I think it may be a characteristic of the Softail because of the low seating position.
It never became a problem for me, as I took it off about 22 years ago and never put it back on...
If you can find a plastic shop in your area they will probably cut yours down for you. We have a Commercial glass and plastics shop (name of company)here that will do that kind of work. Might be cheaper than selling/shipping, and buy another.
Just cut it down BL, it's easy to do. I cut mine way down. Just put blue painters tape on both sides, draw your line and cut with a saber saw using a fine metal blade. Use a hard sanding block with 400 grit sand paper to smooth out any uneven waves of the edge. Then put a nice smooth finished edge to the plexi by sanding that edge again with the block and 2000 grit. It will look better than the stock edge
Thanks for the replies. I think I am just going to cut this one. I just have to make up my mind, 14 or 16 inches. I know I should start at 16, but I am lazy and know I'll never cut it a second time, once I make that first cut. I just have the feeling that the shorter Panheadrich style is the only thing thats gonna make me happy.
