Default UGH!!! One step forward, Two steps back...

As many of you know, I lowered my bike (using the 1-1/2" lowering kit from Dead Creek Cycles) and then I cut off the old license plate holder that hangs off the tailight bracket and relocated the license plate to the right swingarm. I absolutely LOVE the way it looks and the way it rides. Until tonight...

I go to pick up dinner, which is only about a 10 mile round trip. I drove my bike because I wanted to see how the new set up felt (rolling the bars forward, being lowered, etc). I notice that on a few bumps it seems to either bottom out or hit really hard. It didn't do that before I added the swingarm license plate... even after I lowered it.

I get home to find this:

Here is a view on how the license plate is mounted:

It bent my friggin fender because the license plate bracket is hitting it when I go over even mild bumps. What I didn't realize is that while it clears pretty well when I am not seated on the scoot, when I sit down... it only clears by about 1/2" and obviously nails it when hitting bumps.

My question is what are my options now? Can I adjust the shocks to be more stiff? If so, how do I do that?

What do I do about the bent fender? Would I be better off just switching to an axel mounted plate? Maybe behind my swingarm bag on the left side?

Try moving the plate down by mounting it to the bracket with the top holes.....stiffing up the pre-load won't help...it will still hit the fender.

I don't think I can move it to different holes. This is the bracket I bought:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Swingarm-Mou...ht_5671wt_1396

The left holes on the plate holder part go through the plate and through the end of the swingarm mount. The part that is curved is for a light kit (which I am not using).

Also, I can't move the swimgarm mount down because it hits the brake calipers.

Anyone have a link to a nice curved axel mounted license plate holder?

EDIT: Right now I am looking at this straight one from Dead Creek Cycles:

Can't do that because of my swing arm bag. Looks like I am gonna have to buy a axel mounted one.

Next question is, how in the world can I fix my fender and keep the paint from peeling? Or is it time for a whole new paint job? Of course, I would have to get the tank and front fender to match. lol

Hard to tell from here but can you move the bracket away from the bike somehow to clear the fender? It looks like all you would need is an inch or so but...

I had the one in the link below on my 2009 Street Bob. Very high quality just like everything else I have bought from kcint. http://www.kcint2.com/product/60-TLB...TH-1-AXLE.html

But if your going to do it right you need the light to go with it.
