1996 FLSTC Heritage trade
A couple months ago I was gonna trade my '04 Fatty for a 98 Softail Custom, all original, with 809 original miles, and in just-uncrated condition, and the dealer was gonna give me $200 cash, too.
The biggest problem with '96 will be getting parts. Early 90's Evos had a problem with the cases cracking around the lifter block area for no reason, but I think by 96 it had been fixed.
That 96, if mint, is a 6 grand bike at most. Don't trade. Buying used from a dealer is always a ripoff.

Quick search of Cl shows some higher prices in your area...can usually ship for around 500 or less
Bought my softail last year, had been looking at getting back on a bike after about a 25 year break. Was career military, most of it overseas, and given that along with family stuff, a bike just never happened, though I came close several times. Currently living in SW Iowa, working on a second retirement.
And below is my bike (the one they wanted along with the 2500) Oh yeah, been lurking here since I bought the bike, glad i finally jumped in.

Different fenders...
Floorboards instead of your pegs...
I suspect the difference is.... The handlebars...
Spend 5 hundo, put apes on yours.... Call it a day....
