My brother called me today to tell me he got one for his 09 heritage. What is the fix they are doing? A new cap? If so, I will have to transplant my cap skull to the new one. You gotta have skull. My brother said the letter said if not fixed it could affect the fuel pump...I hate when that happens! LOL
Got one Saturday for my wife's Sporty. I'm glad it came. I've noticed gas smell in the garage and traced it to her bike. Was gonna take it to the dealer anyway this week, or just get a new cap to see if that was it. Apparently it was.
Oh and the recall applies to...."certain 2008-2010 Model Year Softail and certain 2008-2011 Model Year XL & Dyna family motorcycles."
There's no mention of the fuel pump being affected. It says...."Upon exposure to certain types of fuel formulations and/or high ambient temperatures, the gas cap may develop a fitment issue between the female threads in the gas tank fill neck and the male threads on the gas cap. If this condition remains undetected, it may prevent a proper seal between the gas tank and the fuel cap assembly, potentially allowing fuel-related emissions to vent through the cap"
The fix is to "perform a filler neck adjustment". !!!! Whatever THAT means.

Reason: added more info
Mine leaks unless I keep downward pressure on the cap as I'm tightening it. If I let up for a second, it doesn't seal. Sucks...I hope I get a recall notice. BTW - 09 bones.
