I just received a recall notice today for my 2010 Heritage for an emissions defect with the gas cap fitment . There is a fitment issue with the female threads in the tank and the male threads on the cap. I wouldn't be too concerned except that they said if not corrected by the owner that it could void the emmisions warranty. This applies to certain 2008 - 2010 Softail and certain 2008-2010 Model year XL & Dyna family motorcycles.
I think they sent those notices to anyone on record owning a model within the specified date range. When I checked the Owner's section of harley-davidson.com, it said "no outstanding recalls" for my VIN.
Got the same recall yesterday for my 08 Rocker C gonna call the dealer tomorrow about the recall plus I changed my fuel cap & fuel gauge last year to the Flame LED fuel gauge and the flame fuel cap.
I got mine a few days ago for my 2010 Heritage Softail. No Biggie . . . . but if your bike is registered in California (and maybe other states as well: AZ, CT, MA, VT, NY, NJ . . . etc.) if a franchised Harley-Davidson Dealer doesn't sign off on performing the recall, and/or doesn't file the paperwork properly . . . you will not be able to get the bike registered the next time it comes due.
Be sure to read ALL the paperwork you get with the recall notice!
BTW, your "Emissions Warranty" is part specific, not bike specific. Unless the part (or parts) in question, the Fuel Tank in this case, is "missing" or "modified" your "Emissions Warranty" will not have anything to do with this recall. OTOH Harley had to do the recall because the problem could cause the bike to exceed the Emissions limits that they certified the bike for. That's not the same thing as your Emissions Warranty.

I recently had my '10 Deluxe in for it's 10K service (at 14K...oops) and when I stopped in to take her home they told me they'd taken care of the recall. First I'd heard of it. My warranty ends in a month anyhow.
