I'm lookin' at ordering these Samson Legend Sidewinders for the FXSTC. As my scoot is the only way i get around i sometimes end up in the rain alot. I reckon the water would vaporize when the pipes are hot but sometimes it'd have to sit in the rain for a while. What do you guys think? Issue or non issue?
Dont think you would have an issue unless it gets parked in a down pour. On equipment with up pipes we drill a 1/4 hole at the lowest portion. This would work for your pipe as well.
Water is actually a normal by-product of combustion in the engine. Have you ever seen the cloud of water vapor coming out of the exhaust on a cold morning? This is particularly noticeable on engines (bikes and cars) that have Catalytic Converters. This is because of how efficient the Catalyst is, and how fast it becomes efficient, at the same time that the fuel mixture is fairly rich on a cold engine.
What rots an exhaust system from accumulated water, at a faster rate than normal, is when/if the engine is frequently shut off before the exhaust system gets warm enough to boil off/evaporate any accumulated water . . . from whatever the source of the water.

Funny story. I hopped in my trans am after it had been sitting a while and went to get on the freeway and punched it and was looking in the mirror and thought I blew the motor when I thought I saw a **** load of blue smoke shoot out the rear. Nope just a bunch of water in the exhaust!
