Default 1989 Heritage Help

I need help gentlemen, I just got this bike like a month ago and my buddy brought the bike to me on his pick up truck. Unfortunately he didn't tie the bike to good and it was tilted on its right side all the way. I noticed it dropped a good amount of oil so of course i added some. Crazy thing is that when i turned it on I noticed it dropped allot of oil on the ground from a small hose. I checked the dipped stick and it looks like its low in oil. I don't know if i over filled it and it spit all the oil out. Does any one know what I should do? I didn't run it or had it on for a while so I'm sure I didn't mess up the engine

Thanx

Your bike has 3 different types and places for oil. The Engine (oil tank under the seat), Transmission (small gear housing on the lower right side in fount of the rear tire), and the Primary case (big clutch housing on the left side of the engine). On different years and models some of the oil levels are checked with the bike leaning on it's kick stand and others are checked with the bike sitting straight up right. You need to get the owners manual or better yet the service manual. If those are not available, or if your not into working on motorcycles call your local Harley dealership and have them come out and pick up your bike and look it over before you ride it.

I'm curious as to how much oil you're actually talking about? What's your estimate, more or less than a shot glass? Does the bike have an oil pressure gauge? It sounds like it's coming out of your breather hose.
