My flush mount was showing half a tank remaing and my low fuel light was already on in the nostalgic type speedo. Filled it up 2.3 gallons. Does anyone know if there is a calibration for low fuel light in the speedo? Has anyone elserun into this? Thanks
The Low Fuel Lamp is controlled by the voltage value on the Yellow/White wire that comes from the Fuel Level Sending Unit to both the Fuel Gauge and the Speedometer (where the low Fuel Level Lamp is).
Electrically the Fuel Gauge and the Speedometer are in parallel with each other, and in Series with the Variable Resistor called the Fuel Level Sending Unit.
In short (no pun intended), if you change the resistance of either the Fuel Gauge or the Speedometer it will affect the accuracy of the other.
If the Fuel Gauge is accurate but the Low Fuel Indicator Lamp is not . . . . it sounds to me like the Fuel Gauge you used is not the right one for your bike. Even IF the Fuel Gauge is accurate!
My flush mounted lights suck and all go out with about 40% left in the tank so I don't trust them. I do like them because when they do go out I know I've got less than a half a tank left.
As for my low fuel light, I have the Speedo/Tach upgrade and the low fuel light comes on when the gauge reads "30 miles to empty". Actually though I think when it comes on even though it says I only have 30 miles, I believe I have more like 45.

i think my issue started after i changed out speedo. My flush light work fine and seem acurate but that low fuel light comes on. might dig up old speedo and see it that makes difference.
I have the same issue, I just learned to deal with it. My low fuel light comes on at 120 miles every time. With my factory gauge, it read almost empty when the light came on. With my flush mount gauge, I have half the LED's lit up when I have half a tank but the light still comes on, and if I fill my 5 gallon tank when the light comes on, it'll never take more than 2.75 gallons. It's annoying as hell.
Don't trust either. Keep track of your mpg and go by your odometer. I fill up close to 150 miles regardless of what any gauge says. On trips I will top off early sometimes because never know when I will see a gas pump.

what speedo are you running? factory or a different one?

Factory, unfortunately. But I got a few hundred bucks worth of chrome points to use at the stealership this winter, so it's either a speedo or power commander, haven't decided.
