Hey guys I have been a member for a while but don't post much. I have a crossbones I bought new in 2008 in my sophomore year of college and I just finished paying it off last month! I am an avid fan of the "bobbed" look so over the years I did a few things to it to make it a little more unique and mine. Itookthe fender off last year and have been very happy but now my friends keep telling me I should put a small fender on it like the shadetree fab, or RSD. I wanted to see what some of you guys thought because I really am torn! Although I do appreciate the time and work it takes to make the fenders I also hate the idea of spending over 500 bucks on one. Let me know what you think. Below is a picture of how my current bike stands. Oh and I will be changing the bars as well. I was really into the bars 2 years ago but I think I want something different now and black! Open to any bar ideas as well.
While I'll agree that no fender looks better than the stock fender (what were they thinking?), I think it still needs SOME kind of fender. If nothing else, pull the front fender as well. Hope you don't ride in the rain, tho. I personally think the x-bones looks best with either a a full fender or a bobbed fender, but not that duck tail thing the MoCo had going with the FL rake. That just doesn't flow at all to my eye. What you have going on seems to be a good start to what member, Cheesecake, converted his Bones to. I think this is how the Bones should have looked stock:
I'd go for lower and narrower apes or Hollywood bars in black.
I'd paint the pipes black and wrap them.
A short, hugger fender in the back looks great on the Bones. (I know what you mean about the ducats, though)
Here's my favorite Cross Bones... (minus the paul frank skull decal)
I'd go with a rear fender and leave the bars because they match the pipes. If you start going all black with it you'll keep putting more money into it. I like it.
My humble suggestions would be a small rear and front fender. I like the front without but all that crap flying in your face is just not worth it. Saw a really nice front fender in an ad for Drag Specialties that's really small. It was a resent issue. I don't like apes so I'd look at HD's Slammers if they would fit. I'd wrap the exhaust just past the last bends, leaving the last foot or so chrome Cut the wrap at the angle of your forks. Your bike is easy because it already is pretty sharp.
