If I still had my stock caps, I'd probably put them back on.
I stopped to get gas one day, and the HD flush-mount wouldn't pop up, so I couldn't get it open. I was stranded. After about 45 minutes of dinking with it, I finally got it open. It was in several pieces. After filling about half full so fuel wouldn't slosh out, I made it home with one of the pieces screwed in, the rest in my pocket.
At home, I was able to snap the pieces back together, and it works again. Doing a search on this, it turns out to be a not uncommon problem. The worst part is that I don't know why it happened in the first place, so I don't know how to prevent it from happening again. Certainly don't want it happening when my wife is riding on her own.
can someone post a picture of their bike with these on it please. i would like to get an idea of what they would look like.
Here's an older photo of my bike though the flush mount caps are not the main focus of the photo. Nice thing is that the speedo colors are set to match the flush mount LEDs.
I love mine. I bought the HD flush mounts, and the only trouble I've had was with the gas cap. It would get stuck in the closed position. It would only happen some times though. It's like it got wet or something, and caused the plastic to expand. Very strange.... I just got lucky the other day and went to the dealership. The gas cap is now obsolete for my year and model bike. (WTF MOCO !!!) The dealership had one in stock. This cap looks different than the older model, so hopefully it will last.
