New Softail owner
So far it is a great fit as far as comfort, but the one thing I really miss is the sound of the pipes.
I only have 250 miles on it so far, only got out 2 days since I have had it 4 days ago. I am hoping the pipes open up a bit and get a bit louder, is this the case?
My wife has very sensitive hearing and I understand her need to to have things on the quiet side, but I would love the have the pipes ring out a bit more than the engine.
My Street Glide had stock pipes but sounded great without being to loud.
I will probably wait until next year if I were to do anything with the pipes, but I am afraid some would be to much and I am also needed to keep expenses low, I am already in the dog house.
So those of you that have a 2013 with stock pipes, have they become better with some time?
Thanks
Dan
Funny.....Funny, I've been doing allot of touring on my Fatboy and have been thinking I'd switch to a Road King or Street Glide. What was the thing that made you switch. Was it handling, Rider Position, Weight?
I had the Anniversary Copper and Black scheme and it just never grew on me. I loved the Street Glide otherwise. The Heritage does seem to ride better. I was also looking for a change and something a bit more classic.
I ended up having Rush 2" slipons installed yesterday.
I love the sound, my wife does not.
I am hoping she will get used to them.
If I have to I will order the smaller baffles in order to tone the pipes down a little.
Just kidding. I love my Vance and Hines, but I also really loved the Cobras I used to have.
Neither are too loud and they really quiet down once you're cruising.
I had stock pipes for my first 1,000 miles. They never got any louder, and always had an annoying tone that sounded more like an old VW bug to me than a Harley. I went with Khrome Werks slip-ons and have been extremely happy with them... nice deep tone, but not too loud. Another slip-on you might consider is the American Custom line. They have inter-changable baffles that can produce different tones.
I kept my stock mufflers, just in case my state ever moves to bi-annual inspections or similar.
I'm thankful I elected to keep my 2013 Heritage stock... and quiet... both from a hearing perspective and a wallet perspective. Not to mention the fact that the wife no longer complains about her ears ringing after a casual 50 mile ride.
I guess I'm officially too old to give a $hit about making a racket while riding. As well as too old to give a $hit what other riders think about my wimpy, whispering Heritage. Embrace the silence.
