Default How much fork oil?

Changed my lowers to chrome today.. 06 flstc.. It went great but unsure how much oil to put in the forks... Manual (red book) says 12.9 ozs if fork were not taken apart. or 119.9 m/m or 4.5 in if they were? .. Who's the math guy out there that can tell me how many ounces to put in these forks?..I think I might need a little more than 12.9 since I took them apart and cleaned them..thanks

IIRC, this is the difference between the two methods:

If the forks are on the bike and assembled, or they cannot be held vertically plumb while filling, then use the ounces method.

If the forks are off the bike and assembled, but the springs are removed, then use the measurement method. The measurement given is the airspace from the top of tube to the top of oil with the springs removed and the shock fully extended and vertically plumb.

Both methods should result with 12.9 ozs of oil in each fork, but the measurement method is a bit more accurate and preferred if the shock is disassembled and off the bike. Otherwise, the ounce method is the only way to fill it.

At least that is the way it was described to me for my FX, don't know if the FL is any different.

When I took mine apart and put them back together I used a little under 14 oz in each fork tube.

The spec for the FL is different due to the shorter tube length.
