One of the nice things about a heritage is that you can do what I did and ge t the best of both worlds, the fairing is the great for all my rides out here in Colorado, but if I want to I can pop it off and either go without anything or throw on the old windshield. All my rides out here are at least 150 miles thats around the block to me !!! I will never get rid of the heritage but I still think I may get an ultra classic someday (only cause my beard is getting grey)

I have a 99 Heritage, (pic in my garage) me and my wife have ridden in every state from the east side of Texas straight up and to the east, from Maine to the Florida Keys and into Canada, still have the bike (although I do have it listed for sale, not sure if I will sell it though) still love it and still ride it quite a bit when I can. Have upgraded to an Ultra Classic, great bike for the long trips but the Heritage is like a comfy old reclyner to me and my wife. 68k miles and about the only issues have been a couple of stators and regulators. Mine has an unique (supposedly stock paint job on it, although I have never seen another Heritage with this paint scheme) LOADS of chrome, dual exhaust, stage 1 (more or less) Have pulled a trailer with it, no problems. I'd say a Heritage is about the best bike to have if ya wanna good mix of a bike big enough to be comfortable but yet small enough to be fun to ride!

Excellent post! Informative post like this is why I joined this forum. I am really looking forward to my first riding season on a heritage.

You never hear any negatives on the Heritage...all around great bike. I had a new one in 2003 and it served me well.

Congrats on the new one! Those tins are going to be sweet!

Thanks, I sure hope so. Just waiting now. It is killing me, still with the snow on the ground, if I had it at home all I could do is sit on it in the garage.

Back in '93, when I was considering my Heritage, I remember the dealer telling me that Heritage Softails were the "least traded bikes they sold" in his experience, and when someone DID trade one, it was usually to get a new one.

19 years later I fully agree. I love my bike, and would only consider parting with it for another Heritage. Over the years, mine has evolved slowly as my tastes have changed and budget allowed. Latest change was the old style hard bags.

I love my heritage even though its more of a deluxe now. I'll never go back. I came up from a sporty so it was a huge upgrade. I'm now going to buy a second for the wife and for more of a touring set up

I have an '06 (Last yr for TC 88) - Stage one stuff: Vance & Hines Big Shot Longs, Tuner, and SE Air cleaner/filter, stock seats. Over 20K comfortable, trouble free miles. I recommend Metzler Tires!

no problems ... great ride. Some people give you that old man's bike crap. Then they want to Put something in your bags for the ride. never fails. Thinking about switching to chubby 12.5 apes this spring.
